Jason Lortie is a PhD student at Florida Atlantic University, where he is conducting research on social entrepreneurship, inter- and intra-national entrepreneurship and strategy. A Level 4 USA Hockey Certified Official (the highest level possible), Jason recently took on another difficult challenge:  getting married just four days before starting his PhD program this past year. Prior to becoming a doctoral student Jason ran and sold two on-line businesses (one in electronics and the other geared toward new and expecting mothers). This might explain why he recently volunteered to act as the ENT division's new webmaster. Thanks so much for offering to serve in this important capacity, Jason!

    Musings from a Past Chair

    by Per Davidsson

Being the Chair of a large, professional organization involves some balancing acts. Most importantly, on the one hand the itch to exert an influence and the risk of acting as if this organization were the epicenter of each member's professional life, which in the vast majority of cases is pretty far from the truth. On the other hand there is the risk that in competition with all other demands in one's professional and private life this voluntary assignment gets pushed to the side, leading to under-servicing the members and not doing justice to the confidence they showed at the ballots a few years ago. In this balance I have tried to avoid over-ambition while focusing on continuing the incremental improvements of the ways in which we service our members.  Read More

    Meet the International Committee

    By: Carlo Salvato

Over the past two years (2009-2011) the International Committee of the Entrepreneurship division has performed three main activities. First, members of the Committee were actively involved in setting up the division's Ambassadors Program. This program is meant to extend the reach of the division's activities internationally by identifying an Ambassador in each of the countries represented in the ENT division. Besides volunteering to be Ambassadors in their own country, Committee members leveraged their professional network to identify Ambassadors in several other countries.  Read More.

    MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

    Mike Wright

    Imperial College, London

Welcome to a new academic year and the start of a new cycle for the Entrepreneurship Division! Thanks to Per for handing over to me one of the most vibrant and fastest growing Divisions of the Academy.

We really do want to make sure that you as members know what is happening in the Division and take part fully in our activities. The member-to-member communication -- the listserv is highly active, and the more recently introduced AoM Connect is also designed to facilitate communication among members.

We also want to ensure that as many of you as possible take up the opportunity to participate in the Division's activities. We are now a large division, which means we need to involve a large number of folks in committee and other support roles to just ensure that things run smoothly. As part of the continuing revitalization of our governance structures and processes to reflect the fact that we are now a large division, we are just completing a major update of Committee chairs and membership, which will be made available soon.

One of Per's main tasks this year as Past Chair is to coordinate the elections for officers of the Division and we would like to see as many of you as possible becoming involved in nominating and being nominated for elected posts as well as in voting in that process.

With the submission cycle for next year's conference about to begin I want to emphasize the benefits of becoming involved in the program. The division's stated mission is to "grow entrepreneurship scholars". Wearing my editor's hat, and indeed as an author, I know how much more challenging it has become in recent years to publish in good journals. Becoming involved in the activities of the Division through submitting and presenting papers, as well as signing up as a reviewer, can help a lot in learning about and making progress in the publication process.   Read More

    WE NEED YOUR INPUT!!

The Entrepreneurship (ENT) Division is asking for your participation in a membership survey that is being conducted as part of the Academy of Management's five-year review process. The survey aims to capture your satisfaction, experiences, and perceptions in regard to the ENT Division.

Your opinion and insights are valued, and we need to hear your ideas for improvement.

The results of this survey will be used to reflect on the current state of the division, and to identify strategic goals and actions for the division's future. Survey analysis and reflections will be included in the report submitted to the Board of Governors and will be shared and discussed with division members.

Please take this opportunity to convey your thoughts about the ENT Division with us.

All responses are confidential and anonymous. The deadline for participating in the survey is November 17, 2011. Thank you in advance for your participation. Mike Wright, ENT Division Chair http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/U2L8WT3BGJJN

Join the Entrepreneurship Division Teaching Committee!

     - Interested in sharing your teaching ideas and experience?

    - Interested in hearing about the latest pedagogical innovations in our field?

    - Interested in developing new content and resources that can be used by entrepreneurship educators for the classroom and beyond?

If yes to any of these three questions, the teaching committee may be just for you! Consider joining our committee whose purpose and responsibilities include producing AOM conference presentations on great teaching and managing the award process for international innovation in entrepreneurship teaching.
