  • 1.  Corporate entrepreneurship course

    Posted 06-21-2011 16:05

I'm working on a syllabus for an MBA course "Corporate entrepreneurship and open innovation".

The first part should  explore a number of crucial topics in corporate entrepreneurship. I prefer to work with  (published) teaching cases. I would appreciate to receive guidelines or syllabi including the cases that are analyzed per topic.

    Thx in advance

    Hi Wim

Optical Distortion at 3M is a nice case about the confluence of decision making and culture

Emerging Business Organisations at IBM is good for exploring the benefits of separate incubator-type arrangements (problems with scale and impact) vs going for a Strategic Intent-style business model innovation-very well-written case because first reading almost always seduces the students into thinking it is an exemplary approach, then one can tease out the issues

Xerox Technology Ventures is good for some of the mechanics of corporate venturing including reward issues and also for an evolution of approach and goals

I like to teach these three in successive weeks and then ask students to compare and contrast the three approaches

I'd be very interested to hear what people think are good Open Innovation cases... have taught OI a few times and sought really top notch cases in vain

    Best wishes

Wim (or anyone else teaching Corporate E'ship:
I suggest you take a look at Mullins and Komisar, Getting to Plan B, which you will find on Amazon. You can write to me, John Mullins, for some cases (and teaching guides, some with videos) on business model innovation written to go along with the book.
    Best,
    John
