  • 1.  Opportunity Recognition or Creativity Class Exercises

    Posted 06-20-2011 16:24

I am developing a new Introduction to Entrepreneurship course (undergraduate) and am looking for class exercises on opportunity recognition and/or creativity.  If anyone has any suggestions or knows of any resources, the information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi Patrick:

One of the techniques (creativity) that I have using @ Intro to Entrepreneurship is "Touch and create business"

You will need "plastic tins" , some "piece" of cloth to cover student eyes and "strange" materials (these material should be without odor=

Ask the students to form groups of 4 and 5 students, ask them to cover their eyes and put the "can" in the center of the table (with the strange material inside).. ask them to "sense" what is inside the tins, not to "guess" the material but sense (texture, temperature, form, emotions, etc)

After each student felt the "strange material", they will have a discussion about what they sensed, later ask them to generate new business ideas (no restrictions) with the "sensing characteristic list" they wrote down in a white/black board

The professor will be leading the discussion the business idea generation and at the end of the activity show to others the "strange material" they had touched

    Regards,

    Patrick:
I suggest you have them prepare a feasibility study on a new venture idea of their choosing, see p 207 (I think) of The New Business Road Test, which could also serve as the text for your course, as it does for many others like yours. The work can easily be broken into a series of assignments due at various points over the term. For more materials, see www.newbusinessroadtest.com .
    Best,
    John
