The Management Consulting Division doctoral consortium will be part of the pre-conference program at the 2011 Academy of Management meeting in San Antonio. As a bridge-building division of the Academy, we invite doctoral students from all divisions to apply to this consortium. The consortium focus is on helping doctoral students at all stages who have an interest in professional services prepare their manuscripts for scholarly publication.
Professor Anne Huff will be presenting the approach she outlines in her seminal work, Writing for Scholarly Publication. Then, in the subsequent session, doctoral students will have the opportunity to present their research in-progress and receive developmental feedback from scholars studying professional services.
Those interested in attending should submit their application to Matt Semadeni (semadeni@indiana.edu) no later than June 15, 2011. The application should include the following:
· A one-page bio that includes the applicant's contact information, research interests, publications, etc.
· The rough draft of a manuscript focusing on bridge-building research touching upon professional services. This manuscript could be a dissertation proposal or some other work in progress that is targeted for scholarly publication. The manuscript should be developed enough for the review committee to have a good sense of the theories being applied and (if it the work is empirical) the data and methods being utilized. We encourage both quantitative and qualitative work to be submitted.
Once accepted to the consortium, you will be paired with a scholar who will confer with you on developing your manuscript for scholarly publication. Given the specific attention each manuscript will receive, space for the consortium is limited. The deadline for receipt of materials is June 15, 2011.
The consortium will be immediately followed by a networking lunch that participants are encouraged to attend. During the lunch, Marilyn Harris, a scholar in action learning and consulting, along with other faculty will be presenting advice for a "holistic doctoral journey".
The Management Consulting division seeks to be a special "bridge" in the academy - between divisions and between constituent groups (academics, business, and consulting).
