TENURE TRACK OR TENURED POSITION IN STRATEGY
The position is shared jointly by the Department of Management and International Business and Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. The research focus of the position is Strategic management.
The tenure track is open to talented individuals who have excellent potential for a scientific career, or have significant scientific and academic achievements. On the basis of their experience and competence, applicants will be placed on any of the four levels of the tenure track system: Assistant Professor (1), Assistant Professor (2), Associate Professor or Full Professor. The candidates for the two first-mentioned levels are appointed for a fixed term, while the candidates for Associate Professor positions are appointed either permanently or for a fixed term. The Full Professor positions are permanent.
Throughout their careers, those under the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the development of their field, to serve the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field. Individuals placed on the Aalto University tenure track have the possibility to advance in their career through regular performance assessments, which take into account their merits in all areas of their scope of duty.
The applicants should be academically qualified (holding a PhD degree or finishing their doctoral studies), display a track record of publications in top level international refereed journals, and have experience of teaching diverse groups in undergraduate, graduate and executive programs (in English). Potential candidates are also encouraged to demonstrate experience-based knowledge of strategy work in organizations (e.g. through consulting and/or research), detail their involvement in international academic leadership, and management of research teams, as well as in applying and receiving research funding. The level of expertise in each area should be commensurate with the career stage of the applicant. Junior applicants with no proven expertise but future potential are encouraged to apply.
The Institute of Strategy at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management consists of six professors and about 40 researchers, including PhD students. In terms of research output in international top journals the Institute of Strategy has in recent years been among the most productive strategy units in Europe. Active research at the Institute covers a broad set of topics including corporate strategy, corporate ventures, industry evolution, innovation management, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic renewal. The Department of Management and International Business consists of four disciplinary areas: Organisation and Management, International Business, Entrepreneurship and Philosophy. The number of professors is 15 and the total number of researchers is about 100. Research focuses on i.e. strategy work and innovation, internationalization processes, sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Teaching is organised within three Master´s programs: Management, International Business and Entrepreneurship, the University's joint Strategy Master's program and CEMS. The Department runs the internationally accredited CEMS Master's in International Management which builds on a global alliance of 26 schools across four continents and more than 60 multinational corporations.
