Dear everyone,
With this letter we would like to call for your participation in our caucus
on "Entrepreneurship and its context". Please find below the information
pertinent to this caucus.
1. Abstract: The entrepreneurship literature suggests that entrepreneurship
is shaped by its context and it can also alter its context. On the other
hand, globalization has made it possible for entrepreneurs to move to
another context, i.e. engage in international entrepreneurial activities or
simply immigrate to another country to do business. To explore this
phenomenon, this caucus offers a platform to discuss the relationship
between entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial contexts. Participants will
examine the topics that have been explored in the literature to pinpoint
areas that need more attention. The result will be a research agenda with
key research questions and directions for future inquiries for three major
themes: (1) Contextual factors affecting entrepreneurship; (2) The impact of
entrepreneurship on the context; (3) Entrepreneurial migration: its
characteristics, causes and effects.
2. Organizers: Mai Thi Thanh Thai and Ekaterina Turkina from HEC Montreal,
Canada
3. Time and venue: 3:00 PM-4:30 PM on Monday, August 15, 2011; Room La Reina
North & Center at Hilton Palacio del Rio
4. Publication opportunities: Journal of Enterprising Communities is
committed to organizing a special issue for the theme "entrepreneurial
migration"
). We are still seeking sponsors for the other two themes and we are open to
your suggestions.
5. Pre-caucus activities: To ensure that our caucus will be relevant and
fruitful for all of us, we would like to ask you to do these tasks by April
30:
Required task: Please submit to us a list of paper ideas you would
like to collaborate with other participants to write for the special issues.
Please limit your paper ideas to the 3 major themes of this caucus: (1)
Contextual factors affecting entrepreneurship; (2) The impact of
entrepreneurship on the context; (3) Entrepreneurial migration: its
characteristics, causes and effects
Optional task: If you have done some literature review for your
paper ideas, please send us a list of your literature. If you have complete
papers and/or your work-in-progresses that you want to be considered for the
special issues, please send them to us too.
We will arrange you into groups of collaborators with the same research
topics and send you the list by May 10 so that people in each group will
have time to communicate with each other to explore your ideas further. In
that way, your meeting at the caucus will be more effective.
6. Activities at the caucus:
10 minutes: Warm-up activities so that participants know a little
more about one another
60 minutes: Round-table discussion in 5-6 groups. At the end of the
discussion, each group will summarize paper ideas that come out from the
discussion and a draft of your future action plan (i.e. research
collaboration, timeline for paper, etc.)
20 minutes: Conclusion with a summary of all paper ideas and action
plans after the caucus.
If you have any question or suggestion, please do not hesitate to contact us
