What are the differences between individual and corporate entrepreneurial opportunities? How are these differences manifested in the entrepreneurial process? What research do we need to develop to bridge the gap between individual and corporate entrepreneurial opportunities?
The concept of entrepreneurial opportunities is the key fulcrum upon which the entrepreneurial process is based (Short et al., 2010). While the pursuit of opportunities is integral to both individual and corporate conceptions of entrepreneurship (Stevenson and Jarillo, 1990), the process of opportunity recognition and evaluation in corporate contexts has been largely side-stepped. To deliver on the promise of entrepreneurial opportunities to move the entrepreneurship field from a mere setting to a research domain (Shane and Venkataraman, 2000), we need research on corporate entrepreneurial opportunities.
We intend to draw on a variety of theoretical perspectives such as individual entrepreneurship, opportunity recognition, ambidexterity, innovation, corporate venturing, and strategic entrepreneurship to provide a rich basis for a research agenda on corporate entrepreneurial opportunities. We look forward to an exciting dialogue with the speakers, panelists, and audience to develop the contours of a richer and more integrative agenda for future research on (corporate) entrepreneurial opportunities.
For the second part of the workshop the panelists will help you shape your research in a roundtable format. We invite doctoral students and scholars who are doing or intend to do research on (corporate) entrepreneurial opportunities to submit a brief research proposal. Please submit your proposal before July 1 to henri.burgers@qut.edu.au. Notification of acceptance by July 10. All scholars welcome to submit, but preference will be given to doctoral students and junior faculty.
Format of the research proposal:
I. Abstract of max. 100 words including keywords
II. Overview of the project (max. 1000 words) including research questions/ hypotheses, conceptual framework and proposed research methods and key references
III. Challenges/ questions you face and which you would like to discuss with the panel (max. 200 words).
