The University of Baltimore is a public, urban-engaged university with a

Merrick School of Business, an AACSB International accredited institution
that is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the
country's Best Undergraduate Business programs in 2011, is seeking an
Executive Director for its Entrepreneurship Center.
The Executive Director is responsible for managing the Entrepreneurship
Center to maximize its overall impact on the Baltimore region and the small
businesses located therein. The Entrepreneurship Center is to be positioned
as an urban entrepreneurship center at the forefront of topics of interest
to the urban entrepreneurship ecosystem. The successful candidate must have
a demonstrated track record in one or more of these area(s): 1) raising
charitable/corporate foundation and government grant funding, 2) winning
government/corporate contracts for a non-profit or education organization,
and 3) creating and implementing successful public/private/partnerships.
The director must be a self-starter and possess the ability to make critical
judgments and act independently on behalf of the Dean. Duties include:
Developing revenue generating programs and obtain grants and other funding
mechanisms for the Center, including corporate partnerships, sponsorships
and contract programs.
Collaborating with the Dean and UBs Institutional Advancement to identify
fund raising and development opportunities.
Developing annual operating budget and ensuring the financial stability of
the Center.
Developing continuing education programs and other targeted programs
(e.g., seminars, conferences, visiting entrepreneur-in-residence program
and/or speaker series).
Collaborating with faculty on the design and delivery of educational programs.
Coordinating internship program for entrepreneurship students and serving
as advisor to the student entrepreneurship club.
Promoting program and Center activities to internal and external
constituencies, including developing and maintaining website content.
Developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Entrepreneurship Center,
Overseeing the day to day activities of the Center, including the coaching
program and the hatchery.
Coordinating activities with the Small Business Development Center to
ensure a synergistic fit with the operations and vision of the
Entrepreneurship Center.
Developing and promoting strategic alliances with key partner organization
(e.g., NFTE, WEB, SCORE, NASA/Goddard and other federal labs).
Maintaining an active and engaged advisory board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a masters degree in appropriate discipline and 3 to 5 years of
related experience that shows progressively increasing responsibilities in
entrepreneurial activities including venture capital, incubators, or
business start-ups. Applicant must have knowledge of overall business
climate, key business contacts, venture capital markets, and other areas
critical to entrepreneurship. Also requires:
Financial acuity; effectiveness in securing and managing resources.
Effectiveness at networking and building communities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to make independent judgments and act accordingly.
Strong project management skills.
An understanding of the role of entrepreneurship in an urban environment.
Demonstrated success at growing and sustaining an organization.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with faculty.
