  • 1.  Entrepreneurial Passion and Emotions

    Posted 01-31-2011 14:02

    Hi Everyone,

I am interested in knowing more about the role of individual emotions (such as positive or negative affect) and entrepreneurial passion on entrepreneurial efforts and outcomes. Given the infancy of entrepreneurial passion as a stream of research, I am not able to find many papers/references on this topic.

I was wondering if members of ENTREP community could share any working papers or sources that would bring me up to speed in this area.

I will compile your responses and share them with those interested.

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure "infancy" isn't selling it a bit short.

Melissa Cardon is the ace - I am surprised that you missed her  published work. (There is forthcoming special ETP issue on affect that will add to this & Melissa was editor: <mcardon@pace.edu>,

Look also at SSRN (if you don't know SSRN, it's a terrific resource for working papers). I co-wrote one on there - http://ssrn.com/abstract=1162337 [it's free to join if you want to download]

Also there's a Babson paper "Sex, Drugs & Entrepreneurial Passion" ; that might be a VERY good place to start. . (Malin Brannback was lead author) I can send you a version of that, but you should ask Malin - she'd like that! <malin.brannback@abo.fi>,

I'll send you other stuff, if you like. There was a whole symposium on this stuff at the Philly AoM -- Rich Sudek had a nice presentation based on a big sample of angels. <richard@sudeks.com>,  Sureth Kotha at UW has an article that takes a little different angle: <skotha@u.washington.edu

But start with Melissa! (I'll also cc all those mentioned - all are good folks too!)

    Hi Norris,
    Thanks for your help.
I have gone through work published in journals, conference proceedings, SSRN, and conference presentations (at AoM and Babson for the last five years). I guess papers from the special issue at ETP are not publicly available (for obvious reasons!).
I will be sure to get in touch with CC'ed scholars.
    Again, I appreciate your guidance.
    Thanks,

We just presented a paper on Entrepreneurial Passion at the recent USASBE conference.  Let me know if you are interested.

Sorry we missed Norris at the conference.
