Mini Track on Entrepreneurship Education.
Track Co-Chairs: Dr Doan Winkel, Illinois State University, USA and Dr Alexandros Kakouris, University of Athens, Greece.
This mini track will focus on various aspects of entrepreneurship education. Entrepreneurship education is a growing phenomenon in higher education institutions around the world. However, the pedagogy behind this phenomenon is fragmented at best, and the practical impact of entrepreneurship education is mostly unknown. Many of the components included in the entrepreneurship classroom have not been developed or implemented from a strong pedagogical foundation, and thus may not be the best tools and resources with which to prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs. For instance, common components of entrepreneurship education include business plan development, community outreach and simulations/gaming. While each of these has value in terms of providing an opportunity for students to learn important concepts and practice important activities related to entrepreneurship, the field lacks rigorous testing of the effectiveness of such tools in terms of both students learning experience, and their eventual entrepreneurial behaviour.
This track is designed to involve both educators and entrepreneurship researchers in a discussion regarding pedagogical approaches to teaching entrepreneurship, enhancing students classroom experience, and the linkages between current practices in entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial behaviour.
Topics may include, but are not limited to:
§ Innovative teaching methods in entrepreneurship education
§ Nurturing creativity, entrepreneurial alertness, and opportunity identification
§ Linkages between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial behaviour
§ Enhancing entrepreneurial self-efficacy
§ Teaching entrepreneurship to non-business students
§ Connecting the community and the entrepreneurship classroom
