Hi Alex,
We do not have a prerequisite to take the course, but we have a type of informal selection process.
As an elective discipline, students self enroll to the course and there is a limit of 50 places available each semester.
As students are in the last year of the course, they tend to elect the most 'easy' courses, although they are not, in fact, interested in the subject. They have what they call 'Graduation Pack' which is the collection of disciplines offered at the last year that are easy to be approved (that sounds awful but this is true). Entrepreneurship and Creativity course is part of this package.
During the first two weeks of the course, students can change their mind and move to other disciplines. So, in the first class, I show them, from several ways, that this course is not part of the 'Graduation Package' as it seems to be. I do this by reinforcing the reading requirements, the exercises, the weekly assignments and several other things that, in reality, are not that heavy as I prioritize activities that foster entrepreneurial behavior.
By doing this, a natural selection process spontaneously happen. Those students that are not aligned to the purpose of the course change their minds giving room to others, more interested and more interesting, who aggregate to the course. Most of the course dynamics depend on student active participation. That's why it is important to have most part of the class fully committed to get engaged in the activities. The success of the course depends on the level of the students. This technique, in our case, is better than establishing prerequisites, mainly because engagement and commitment cannot be defined as prerequisites due to the difficulty to identify them.

I am seeing some great suggestions for a creativity course. Thanks Todd for raising the point.
I have a related question for those of you currently teaching a creativity and innovation course in your undergraduate programs. Can you tell me what, if any pre-requisites, your students must have before being allowed to take this course?

Hi Todd,
there's also "Innovate like Edison" by his grandniece Sarah Miller Caldicott (http://powerpatterns.com/index.html)

Hi Todd,
I use "How to Think Like Einstein" by Scott Thorpe along with a packet
of articles I have compiled from HBR and entrepreneurship books.
It is for an undergrad course- and the students really like the Thorpe
book (focused on the creative process) and like many of the articles.

Hi Todd
I had reviewed a series of books myself (we're launching a new,
application-oriented entrepreneurship minor) that I'd be happy to send
you, and also came across a very helpful site that contains book reviews
of other materials. It's at
www.innovationtools.com/articles/bookreviewheadlines.asp
I'm basically using Druckers "Innovation and Entrepeneurship" but still
working on other readings.
I'd be very interested in what kind of response you received, and if
you got ay exercises off of the listserve.
Thanks
Emeric
