The Kent R. Hance Regents Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship
The Area of Management in the Rawls College of Business invites applications and nominations for the Kent R. Hance Regents Chair in Entrepreneurship. Funding for this chair is provided with a state-supported faculty line, in conjunction with an endowment of $1 million. The Hance Chair in Entrepreneurship offers a scholar who has a national reputation in entrepreneurship and who is a tenured associate or full professor the opportunity to contribute to the continued research development of a faculty which has strong scholarly achievements.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The Hance Regents Chair in Entrepreneurship is open until filled. Candidates should possess a national reputation in entrepreneurship research, a vision for the field of entrepreneurship, the capacity to provide research leadership and to work collaboratively within a community of scholars that includes faculty and doctoral students, and the ability to provide outstanding teaching and service within the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business, Texas Tech University, and the business community. In association with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business, the Hance Chair will collaborate with the Bagley Chair in Management and other faculty members on research projects and the design and development of leading-edge entrepreneurship education. Candidates must possess a doctorate in management or a related field and have a strong research record in entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship and family business, or entrepreneurship and a management-related discipline. Accordingly, the primary portion of the successful candidate’s research must be in entrepreneurship. The appointment requires academic credentials and experience sufficient to qualify for the rank of associate or full professor with tenure and to set the standard for top-tier entrepreneurship and management research.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Area of Management is one of five academic units in the Rawls College of Business Administration. The AACSB accredited College has the 6th largest business school enrollment in the U.S. Including the new chair holder, the Area will have fourteen tenure track faculty positions, servicing undergraduate, MBA, and PhD programs in management. The department and college subscribe to all major research databases and provide an outstanding technology and computing environment. Current faculty have recent and forthcoming publications in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Strategic Management Journal, and other leading journals.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY:
Texas Tech University, classified as Carnegie Doctoral/Research University – Extensive, enrolls approximately 29,000 students in eleven colleges/schools, including Law and Medicine, in Lubbock, Texas. The University recently completed a five-year, $500 million capital campaign, and since August 2000 has completed $123 million in new construction with an additional $171 million under construction. The Rawls College of Business has a current endowment level of approximately $40 million and an operating budget of $14 million. Currently, the Rawls College has broken ground on a new $60+ million building to house business school students, faculty, and staff. Texas Tech is a member of the Big 12 Athletic Conference.
ABOUT THE CITY:
Lubbock, with a population of over 200,000, enjoys 267 days of sunshine per year in a semi-arid southwestern climate. With a very low cost of living index, the city’s diverse economy is sustained primarily by TTU, a large healthcare industry, abundant retail shopping and restaurants, agriculture, and oil/energy. Three independent school districts and numerous private/religious schools offer excellent education opportunities for families. Lubbock International Airport offers travel convenience via American, Continental, and Southwest Airlines. Golf, tennis, biking, swimming, and running enthusiasts enjoy a variety of venues. New Mexico skiing is within a reasonable driving distance, and Texas Tech recently opened a championship 18-hole golf course on campus.

The Hance Regents Chair in Entrepreneurship is open until filled. Informal interviews may be conducted at the 2010 Academy of Management annual meeting, but are not required. Applications/Nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence. Applicants should send a letter of application, two samples of your best writing in the field of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurship and a management-related discipline, a list of four references (three from academe and one from the business community), and curriculum vitae to:
