Apologies in advance for cross postings:

LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND has two tenure track positions in ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR and one tenure track position in INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS.

We are conducting and scheduling interviews at the Academy of Management Meetings in Montreal. Interested individuals should e-mail, enclosing curriculum vitae, to Dr. Hung-bin Ding (hding@loyola.edu) to schedule interviews.

About Loyola University Maryland: Important Facts for Candidates to Consider

    Loyola:

Loyola is a Jesuit institution, part of a more than 450 year culture with values that call for intellectual rigor and inquisitiveness, and educating the whole person, among others.

    Sellinger School of Business:

We're a 50, 30, 20 AACSB business school; which is really 50% teaching, 50% research your first years with us.

What all of this translates into is:

    (1) We have one of the oldest EMBA programs in the country.

    (2) We have the 17th largest part-time MBA program in the country--now ranked in the top 50--covering 3 campuses (all within 20 minutes).

    (3) We have a vibrant undergraduate program--also highly ranked.

    (4) We are strong financially--while others are cutting, we're adding lines.

What this means to you as a potential member of our faculty is:

    Teaching:

    (1) If what you want is to teach as few courses as possible, using TAs and in large sections, that's not us.

    (2) Instead, we're a 3-3 school (2-3 for first two years and with summer support), classes are 25-30 students and we do not have TAs as we expect faculty to know their students as whole persons.

    (3) The faculty in the business school are truly gifted as teachers.  Some have been selected as Best Professors at places like George Washington University; but likely will never deserve the award at Loyola--the faculty are just that good.

    (4) Getting tenure will require you to be a very good teacher--even super strong research will not overcome weak teaching (we're not an R1).

    Research:

    (1) Our faculty are all AQ and usually publish something every year.

    (2) We are all capable of achieving Elite or Tier 1 level publications--we've been published in SMJ, JIBS, CMR, LRP, among others--and expect new hires to demonstrate that they are also capable of doing so.

    (3) But few of us do so routinely, as, consistent with the 50, 30, 20 split, we are often actively engaged with our teaching, service or other life activities.

    (4) It's not only our students who we see as whole persons, but also ourselves.

    (5) As a group, we are all passionate about teaching, often get fired up to do some good research, and try to do our best to share whatever administrative burdens come with being in a shared-governance environment.

In sum: We are looking for candidates who share this whole person approach.  Engaged teaching, intellectually competent and curious (and able to demonstrate both with good publications), and desiring of living a full life.
