Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and Director, VentureSeries
Department: Department of Management; Dexter F. Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation
Academic Category & Field of Expertise: Entrepreneurship, any discipline
Position Description:
The Department of Management at Lehigh University seeks applications and nominations for a full-time, non-tenure track Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and Director of the VentureSeries program in the College of Business and Economics. The VentureSeries is a highly acclaimed executive certificate program and MBA track in Corporate Entrepreneurship. The Director will also be affiliated with the Dexter F. Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation, which aims to nurture a culture of entrepreneurship across the university, promote innovative thinking, and foster the realization of entrepreneurial ideas in any field.
Candidates may have credentials in any field, but should have substantial experience in VC-based entrepreneurship, preferably with hands-on experience in deal making, term sheets and valuation, with knowledge of corporate governance and intellectual property strategy for new ventures. In addition, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels is a critical attribute for this position.
The Director will be expected to provide a leadership role working with the Baker Institute and the Entrepreneurship Curriculum Committee in expanding curriculum and extracurricular programming university-wide, teaching and mentoring student and faculty entrepreneurs, and in strengthening ongoing relationships with the entrepreneurial community. The VentureSeries relies extensively on external domain experts as speakers and discussion leaders, thus requiring the program director to draw on a deep and diverse personal network of industry and professional contacts.
This position complements a major new commitment by Lehigh to entrepreneurship, including the launch of the Baker Institute in March 2010, the introduction of a substantial fundraising campaign, significant hiring within the College of Business and Economics, and the placement of key administrators from institutions well known for their deep entrepreneurial cultures (President Alice P. Gast from MIT in the Fall of 2006, Dean Paul Brown from NYU in the Summer of 2007, and Provost Patrick Farrell from the University Wisconsin in the Summer of 2009). University leadership is committed to fostering an entrepreneurial environment in which the successful candidate, the VentureSeries and the Baker Institute can excel. The University is also home to the Ben Franklin TechVentures, a national award winning tech startup incubator. Given these initiatives and others under way, the aim is to increase the national visibility of our entrepreneurship programs and Lehigh University. The chosen candidate is expected to contribute significantly to this effort.
