The School of Business Administration at Portland State University
seeks exceptional candidates for a tenure track position in strategy
with a focus on social and/ or environmental sustainability beginning
Fall, 2011. The ideal candidate should have (1) an earned doctorate in
business or related field with an emphasis in strategy (advanced ABD
candidates will be considered); (2) evidence or promise of a strong
and innovative program of research that adds value to organizations by
addressing environmental and/or social issues related to business
strategy; (3) demonstration of teaching excellence in strategy
courses; and (4) a strong and continuing commitment to both research
and teaching.
Portland State's School of Business is AACSB-accredited, has a strong
commitment to both research and teaching, serves over 3400 students,
and grants more graduate degrees than any other university in Oregon.
The School's MBA+ program was ranked 22nd in the world and 15th in the
country by Beyond Grey Pinstripes for the integration of social and
ecological issues into curriculum and the focus on social and
ecological issues in faculty research. The School's Center for Design
and Innovation for Business & Sustainability offers a variety of
activities, including an annual conference, to further the School's
efforts in this area.
The school's active involvement with the region's strong and growing
entrepreneurial, sustainability-focused business base provides
numerous opportunities for faculty to conduct research with the
thriving footwear and apparel, renewable energy, high tech, "green"
building and food industries. We offer a stimulating, collegial
environment that values a diversity of research approaches and topics,
and supports research efforts through the provision of graduate
assistantships, travel funds, summer support, and a teaching load
conducive to effective scholarship. Management faculty have published
in flagship journals including the _Academy of Management Journal_,
_Journal of Management_, _Strategic Management Journal_, _Business
Strategy & the Environment_, _Organization & Environment_, _California
Management Review_, _Journal of Business Research_, _Journal of
Applied Psychology_, _Journal of International Business Studies_, and
_Personnel Psychology_.
Portland State University's "Sustainability Vision" is to be an
internationally recognized university known for excellence in student
learning, innovative research, and community engagement that
simultaneously advance economic vitality, environmental health, and
quality of life. To fulfill this vision, PSU is developing core
multidisciplinary research competencies in key areas related to
pressing real world problems. Initial priorities include: Intelligent
Transportation Systems; Integrated Water Resource Management;
Sustainable Urban Development; Sustainable Business Processes and
Practices; Environmental Science and Green Technology Development;
Community Food Systems; and, Social Sustainability. Since 2002, PSU
has focused on designing new buildings and retrofitting and renovating
older campus buildings with sustainability in mind. Several PSU
buildings serve as models of these kinds of innovative sustainable
design and construction projects. Its success at integrating
sustainability into its campus operations was highlighted when PSU was
the first university in the nation to receive the Salmon Safe
certification for its ecologically sustainable land management
practices that protect agricultural and urban watersheds.
The university is dispersed over 52 acres of greenspace amidst the
cultural and business center of downtown Portland. Portland is a
thriving city of natural beauty considered to be a model for
livability, environmental stewardship and new urbanism principles.
Portland is located within an hour's drive of mountains and the Oregon
coast, and has the nation's largest urban forest area.
