    Position Description:
    The Head of the Department of Management provides leadership for the Department and is also a member of the College's Executive Committee.  Through a process of shared-governance, the department head is expected to provide strategic direction for the Department, as well as manage the ongoing activities of the Department, in a manner that results in continuous improvement.  The job requires balancing leadership in the department with interdisciplinary College leadership. The Department Head has frequent contact with external constituencies and, therefore, is an important representative of both the Department and the College.  The position is to remain open until filled.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Ph.D. or equivalent with qualifications to be appointed at rank of full professor.
    • Background and experience required to serve as the academic leader of a department spanning strategic management and entrepreneurship, including setting strategy and growing academic programs.
    • Ability to manage financial and budgetary responsibilities.
    • Ability to work effectively across sub-disciplines in management and with other disciplines in the College of Business Administration and University.
    • Evidence of collegiality, team building, consensus-style leadership coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to diversity.

    Desired Qualifications
    • Demonstrated innovation and excellence in teaching experience spanning undergraduate, masters, doctoral and/or executive education.
    • Successful hands-on experience in work with industry.
    • A track record of research demonstrating a balanced commitment to rigor, answering relevant questions for business, and funded research.
    • Experience in development.

    Program Information
    The Department of Management is positioned within the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee.  The Department encompasses programs in strategic management, human resource management, and entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship has been identified as one of the primary strategic initiatives of the College, with significant private funding devoted to teaching and research in this area.  The Department enjoys a strong and meaningful position within the College, and faculty members are active participants in College-wide programs and priorities.
