    The Labovitz School of Business and Economics (LSBE) at the University of Minnesota Duluth invites applications for a full-time, 9-month,  tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Management Studies in the area of Entrepreneurship at either the Instructor or Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2013.  Approximately 2100 undergraduate and 70 graduate students are currently enrolled in the school's programs.  Both the undergraduate and graduate programs are AACSB-International accredited.  There are currently 48 full-time faculty members in five academic departments:  Accounting, Economics, Finance and Management Information Sciences, Marketing, and Management Studies (which includes Human Resources and Organizational Management).  The School offers the Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA degrees.  Regional outreach is accomplished primarily through activities of the School's Center for Economic Development, the Bureau of Business and Economic Research, and the Center for Economic Education.  Additional information about the School and its programs can be obtained by accessing the LSBE web site (https://lsbe.d.umn.edu/).

     

    The individual hired for this position will have responsibilities in teaching, research, and service.  The individual will teach undergraduate Entrepreneurship courses, electives in the area of Management, and possibly a graduate Entrepreneurship course.  Currently, the teaching load is five sections per academic year, normally with three preparations per year.  The creation of knowledge in the area of Entrepreneurship resulting in its dissemination through the publication of refereed articles in recognized journals, the presentation of papers, other acceptable channels and through one's teaching is required.   The individual will be responsible for advising undergraduate students and working with student organizations and is expected to engage in service activities with colleagues, the department, School, campus, community and professional organizations. 

     

    Required Qualifications

    (1)    Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or DBA in business or be ABD (with a clear plan for completion by December 31, 2013) in that area with a curricular emphasis or research in Entrepreneurship from an AACSB-International accredited school or major provincial university. The applicant must have completed a minimum of two years in residency during his/her program.

    (2)    Evidence of potential for scholarship is essential. The applicant must demonstrate empirical research skills appropriate for, and a commitment to developing, a research stream in the field of Entrepreneurship.  Applicants holding a Ph.D. or D.B.A. must have published refereed Entrepreneurship-related articles averaging one refereed journal publication for each complete year post-terminal degree.  If the candidate is ABD for more than two years, he/she must have submitted at least one Entrepreneurship-related manuscript to a refereed journal for potential publication. 

    (3)    Applicants must exhibit abilities, skills and enthusiasm consistent with teaching excellence and instructional innovation in the area of Entrepreneurship.

    (4)    Applicants must exhibit a willingness to fulfill service responsibilities to students, colleagues, the department, School, campus, community and professional organizations.

    (5)    Applicants must evidence interest in developing a programmatic concentration in Entrepreneurship &/or a student-focus Entrepreneurship center.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    In addition to the required qualifications stated above, we would prefer that the candidate possess two or three years of academic experience subsequent to the completion of a business Ph.D. or D.B.A. with curricular focus and research in Entrepreneurship from an AACSB-International accredited school or major provincial university.  This candidate will have published an average of one referred journal article per year in the area of Entrepreneurship for each year subsequent to degree completion.  Additionally, we would prefer that the candidate have documented evidence of involvement in the creation of an Entrepreneurship center &/or a programmatic concentration in Entrepreneurship.  Additionally, we prefer a candidate with a demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching methods in a diverse classroom.
