Organizational strategy as behavior?

  • 1.  Organizational strategy as behavior?

(Apologies for cross-posting.  Please forward to colleagues and graduate students.)

Please join a new scholarly conversation at the intersection of organizational strategy and behavior:

The Academy of Management has recently approved a new interest group:  "Strategizing Activities & Practice" (SAP).  At the annual meeting in Montreal (AoM 2010), this interest group will be meeting for the first time.  We welcome your involvement:  Please help to organize our group, shape our conversation, and advance our research agenda.

    Why to join...

    ·         Help to build a stronger community of strategic management scholars at the Academy of Management.

    ·         Push the research envelope.  Account for the social or organizational face of strategic management.   See strategy as something that people do and not just something that organizations have.

    ·         Use a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives to study strategic management (including practice, institutional, discourse, sensemaking, routines, and cognition).

    ·         Look deep within organizations.  See beyond top management teams to consider the strategic work of middle managers, consultants and non executives.  How do such things as knowledge, identity and emotions affect the strategic work of organizations and individuals?

    ·         PLEASE JOIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  Our current enrollment determines how much meeting space, presentation time, and funding we will receive for next year's AoM convention.

    How to Join...

    1.      You can join SAP when you renew your AoM membership.  For most people, this is during the spring or summer.  The Academy will send you an email reminder when you are in your "renewal period" (i.e., 90 days before the expiration date).

o   Press the "Make Changes before Renewing" button to choose a new interest group.

o   Under the heading "Interest Groups," locate "Strategizing Activities and Practices" (code = D25).

o   Check the box next to the group name.

    2.      You can join SAP any time, BEFORE or AFTER your membership renewal period:

o   Write a quick email to the AoM membership office: membership@aom.pace.edu

o   Request that SAP be added to your membership profile.
