Entrepreneurship Division Early Career Development Consortium
2010 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Montreal
    Friday, August 6 2010

The Entrepreneurship Division will sponsor an Early Career Development Consortium during the 2010 annual meetings of the Academy of Management meetings in Montreal.  This year's program is specifically designed to meet the needs of those scholars who are early in their career and who hold the rank of Assistant Professor, or a similar rank.

On Friday, August 6th a panel of experts including Howard Aldrich, Melissa Bacus, Melissa Cardon, Lowell Busenitz, Per Davidsson, David Deeds and Holger Patzelt, will provide practical advice about managing your career to help you succeed in the classroom AND have time to do research. The consortium will be designed around the theme of "Phases of an Assistant Professor's Academic Life" and the path toward tenure. Challenges and experiences you can expect to face in each phase as well as practical advice about determining when or whether to re-enter the job market will also be addressed.  The program will also address issues such as: managing the promotion and tenure process, mentoring doctoral students, class management and grading, developing a new prep, and managing difficult classroom situations.

The Consortium will begin at 9:00 am on Friday, August 6, 2010 with a continental breakfast, lunch will be provided and we will conclude with a dinner at a nearby restaurant.  The consortium will take place at Concordia University which has graciously donated space and which is located in close proximity to the conference hotels.

This year's consortium is chaired by Lou Marino (University of Alabama) and Johan Wiklund (Syracuse University).  The consortium will be limited to 25 participants to allow plenty of time for interaction. Qualified participants will be admitted on a first come basis.

To apply, please send the following items as email attachments to Lou Marino (lmarino@cba.ua.edu) with the subject "Entrepreneurship Early Career Development Consortium"

    3.      A current resumé/CV.

    4.      Please list other topics or issue you would especially like to see us address.
