2010 IDEA Awards Call for Nominations
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management and the University of Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CCEI), we are writing to follow up on our previous invitation to you: to nominate candidates for the 2010 IDEA Awards. If you haven't yet been able to submit your suggestions - now is the time!
As you are no doubt aware, the IDEA Awards are part of the 5-year Entrepreneurship Research Excellence Initiative that - together with the Exemplars Conference (http://ccei.business.uconn.edu/exemplars), was recognized last year as an Academy 'best-practice.' Your participation in the nominations process is vital to promoting the openness and transparency standards set by the Division Awards Committee.
At this year's Academy of Management meeting in Montréal, Canada, we will be holding the third annual IDEA Awards dinner to honor excellence in entrepreneurship research. We therefore seek high quality research that has been, is, or is likely to be influential to the field of entrepreneurship. Accordingly, we are using a very broad cross-disciplinary conceptualization of entrepreneurship that, for example, encompasses work in business formation, corporate entrepreneurship, creativity, family business, innovation, institutions and entrepreneurship, new value creation, opportunity, technology entrepreneurship, venture capital, etc.
In particular, we are now calling for nominations for IDEA Awards in the following categories:
Foundational Paper (1 Award) - A classic and highly influential contribution to entrepreneurship research that serves as a legacy for scholarly work in the field
Thought Leader Papers (up to 4 Awards) - Best published papers in entrepreneurship from the prior year (2009).
To provide the widest opportunity for participation, we solicit your considered input for these awards. Please identify 2-3 nominations per category by Monday, March 15, 2010. Each nomination must include a traditional citation on the nominated work and be emailed to
idea-awards@business.uconn.edu<mailto:
idea-awards@business.uconn.edu>. While self-nominations will be accepted they are discouraged, because they do not fully capture the spirit of this Call which is to look beyond one's own scholarship toward conceptualizing contributions to the field.
Authors will split $1500 in prize money for each of the above awards, in addition to each receiving a beautiful crystal monument recognizing her/his achievement.
There is a third IDEA Award category: the Research Promise IDEA Award. Since, emerging scholars are already competing for several Division awards (Best Dissertation Awards, Best Conceptual Paper, and Best Empirical Paper) that honor "research promise," winners of these Division Research Awards will be invited to the IDEA Awards Dinner, and receive the Research Promise IDEA Award that accompanies their winning of a particular Division Research Award, They will be acknowledged by receiving a beautiful crystal monument recognizing her/his achievement.
This year, the IDEA Awards dinner will be held in Montréal, Canada, on Sunday evening, August, 8th, 2010. Due to space limitations, this will again be an invitation only event (with a random selection from a pool of volunteers to represent the Division-at-large); and details on the location and time will be sent out in the coming months.
We look forward to receiving your nominations. Again, the deadline is Monday, March 15, 2010. Please email your nominations and associated citations to:
