I've been using the marketplace 'advanced' simulation products for several years in my undergraduate entrepreneurial management course and in a masters level entrepreneurship course. While they primarily 'bill' their products as 'strategy' or 'marketing' simulations, this is mainly to broaden their market for their products. I've found that the 8 quarterly move versions of their products adapt nicely to an entrepreneurship class setting. Unlike products like MarkStrat, etc., students have to form and start their firms from scratch (rather than take over operations of an ongoing firm), launch new products, raise professional funding, adapt products and launch new products, while at the same time dealing with issues like operations, human resources, financial management, globalization, etc. Student teams compete against each other in 'marketplace' universes (which they really get into). I add a liquidity event exercise at the end of 8 quarters of play to bring closure to the simulation.
It also differs from MarkStrat (which used some time ago) in that it does not require the students to have advanced analytical marketing skills to get the full advantage out of the experience.
There is a learning curve for the professor the first time around. But it has settled in for me to about the same effort as preparing for a discussion-based class.
Hope this helps!

Colleagues,
I am looking for a web-based entrepreneurship simulation to use in an undergraduate introductory course in entrepreneurship. My optimal search parameters consist of a functional simulation which provides an overview of the entrepreneurial process (ideally-from idea to exit), and is scalable (i.e., so I can successfully manage the course!) in a multi-national distance education context.
I have researched several of the various product offerings, but wondered if any of you who have used any of these products would mind sharing your experiences with me. Please feel free to email me directly at dtownsend@ncsu.edu.
Kind regards,
David Townsend
