Call for Papers

    DEADLINE: April 15, 2007

    Dear Colleague,

In response to various suggestions from our membership and in order to provide greater opportunities and diversity in the CLADEA conference, we are proposing a new set of rules for the selection of papers for our Annual Conference scheduled for this coming October in Miami, Florida.

The conference will be divided into two major streams with several sub-streams as follows:

    Academic Conference

The academic stream of the conference will continue to follow the themes articulated earlier, that is, "Human Capital, Innovation and Entrepreneurship." Papers will be accepted in one of two categories:

    1. Competitive Sessions. Papers submitted for these sessions are typically fully developed and deal with one of the topics for the conference as described below. Papers must be submitted electronically and in English. The papers must be of a quality typical of those appearing in international journals and are limited to 30 pages in length, double spaced, and including bibliography and all exhibits. Please follow the same style in all submissions as required by the American Psychological Association (APA). All competitive papers will be subjected to a double blind review process. Sessions will include no more than three papers with similar themes and will be presided by a moderator.

    Possible themes:

Human Capital: managing people across cultures; leadership behavior; impact of culture on business; management of expatriates; team management; ethics and values; work systems; knowledge creation, management, and spillover; training and development; outsourcing/offshoring; organizational behavior; negotiations

Innovation: innovation in corporate functions--marketing, financing, production, product development, production systems; technology development; knowledge transfer and dissemination in firms; innovation and diffusion; R&D, networks, and value chains; customer-driven innovation; distribution and other innovations to reach the "bottom of the pyramid"; innovation and creativity; national innovation systems.

Entrepreneurship: new venture creation and growth; social entrepreneurship; family-owned entrepreneurial firms; opportunity identification processes and strategies; environmental influences on venture creation and growth; obstacles to entrepreneurial activity; emerging industries, corporate venturing; venture capital, venture teams; entrepreneurship and economic development; entrepreneurial finance.

    2. Interactive Sessions. These sessions are intended to accommodate work in progress, case-based exploratory research, conceptual development and other work that invites discussion and interaction. Papers for these sessions can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese, and must be limited to no more than 20 pages, doubled spaced, and including bibliography and all exhibits. We intend to group papers in sessions in order to elicit maximum discussion among the panelists and the audience. These submissions will be subjected to a single review process in keeping with their less developed format.

All papers must be identified as belonging to either the Competitive Sessions or the Interactive Sessions. If not identified, they will be assigned to one or another of these groups by the review team. There will be at least two or three concurrent sessions dealing with these papers throughout the conference.

    Paper Submissions:

Submissions for the conference will take place through via email. The complete manuscripts (not just abstracts) must be submitted by APRIL 15, 2007 to cladeapapers@business.fiu.edu for consideration.

Each submission should include a cover sheet with author information (name, address, phone, fax, email) and corresponding author. Submission of a manuscript for review constitutes a commitment that one paper author or all panelists or symposium members will attend the conference if the submission is accepted.

For current information regarding the conference and associated events, submission instructions, and deadlines, please check the conference website at https://cbasys.fiu.edu/bofa/cladea/callsforpaper.cfm. Any questions regarding this call for papers should be submitted to the Academic Committee Chair, Jerry Haar, at Jerry.Haar@fiu.edu.

Manuscript submissions should be sent to cladeapapers@business.fiu.edu for review and consideration.

    Administrative Conference

In addition to the academic papers selected from submissions received according to the procedures stipulated above, the organizers will arrange for a number of panel or discussion sessions on themes of interest to Deans, Associate Deans and other Business School administrators. These sessions will be arranged in accordance with the preferences stipulated by the members of CLADEA who responded to the survey sent out last December.

The administrative conference will also include plenary sessions with special invited guests that should be of interest to all participants.

    Best Regards,

    José de la Torre
