Apologies for cross posting.
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Today more than half of the total world's population lives in urban areas. By 2050, this number will be more than 70%. Within this context, economic development of urban areas (i.e., social engineering) is one of the most significant challenges of this 21st century. To this end, Urban Entrepreneurship has become the default choice to help these development efforts. As a result, urban areas reflect hubs of socioeconomic activities inclusive of entrepreneurship efforts and are becoming an important area of research for business scholars.
In light of these trends, we kindly invite you to participate in the Urban Entrepreneurship discussions and research groups, including a PDW, symposium, and caucus, taking place at the 2013 AoM conference in Orlando.
These three events are part of broader ongoing research efforts focused on Urban Entrepreneurship within the management field. Our endeavors first started in 2011 through an AoM symposium focusing on the critical perspectives on entrepreneurship and urban development. In 2012, this research agenda informed an AoM symposium focused on Urban Entrepreneurship and Socioeconomic Development Policy in Formal and Informal Economies. In 2013 we aim, through these sessions, to identify common ground among management scholars to develop cooperative research agenda and a conference in this growing area.
Below, please find the details of the three sessions on Urban Entrepreneurship at the 2013 Academy of Management Meeting.
We look forward to seeing you at these session and joining the conversation on Urban Entrepreneurship. Please feel free to email us to learn more about the different events.
Cheers,
Arturo E. Osorio, Banu Ozkazanc-Pan, & Jeffrey Robinson
