It is a safe, easy place to live and well suited for families (e.g., excellent schools, many parks, bike paths, recreational opportunities).  Most faculty live within a 5-10 minute door-to-door commute.  Portland is about 90 minutes to the north, and Eugene is about 45 minutes to the south.

Corvallis has been named one of the best college towns in the country, based on its high quality of life, the academic environment of Oregon State University, and the professional opportunities available locally to graduates. It placed fifth both in the list of best college towns, and fifth as a best overall college destination, based on 227 college metropolitan areas assessed by the American Institute for Economic Research.
