PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT - TEACHING BOOT CAMPS
The OBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators, in cooperation with the
Midwest Academy of Management and the Southern Academy of Management, is
offering two Workshop 'Teaching Boot Camps' for doctoral students and new
instructors (tenure track and clinical faculty).
Each Boot Camp is offered as a 6-hour preconference workshop. Four major
topic areas will be covered in each workshop:
- Basic principles of how people learn
- Fundamental elements of teaching and designing a course, preparing a
syllabus, designing elements to measure learning.
- Conducting an effective classroom: teaching techniques (lecture, role play
and case), and classroom management issues
- Coping with classroom challenges and dilemmas: understanding important
choices and tradeoffs to assure successful performance
Each workshop will be highly interactive, and will be facilitated by
experienced, award-winning faculty who are members of the OBTS Teaching
Society for Management Educators. The $55 workshop fee includes workshop
registration, handouts, a resource CD with articles on effective teaching
techniques from the Journal of Management Education, and a one year
membership in OBTS that includes a one-year subscription to the Journal of
