    Professional Development Workshop

    Sponsored by the Journal of Management Studies and

    the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies

    In conjunction with the 2014 Journal of Management Studies (JMS) conference Managing Complexity Within and Across Organizational Boundaries, the editors of JMS will be conducting a professional development workshop for doctoral candidates. The workshop will take place on Monday, 24th March at the Møller Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge. It is aimed at doctoral students in any management-related discipline.

     

    This doctoral workshop will focus on professional development with a particular emphasis on strategies for successful publishing. The workshop will include presentations by experienced editors and reviewers, as well as more focused discussions in a number of areas related to publishing. Sessions already scheduled include:

     

    • Understanding the Review Process
    • Managing an Academic Career
    • How to Present your Arguments Effectively

     

    We invite all those interested in attending to submit an expression of interest (maximum two pages), which should include information on:

     

    • your field of research
    • your specific topic
    • the stage your PhD is at 
    • the reasons you are interested in attending

     

    You must also include the name and contact details of at least one of your supervisors. Expressions of interest should be forwarded to Margaret Turner via email at business.jms@durham.ac.uk and should be received no later than 31st October, 2013. Places are limited to 20 participants and attendees will be selected on the basis of expressions of interest. Participants who wish may also attend the full conference.

     

    Accommodation, if required, will be provided free of charge at the Møller Centre. A limited number of bursaries may be offered by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) towards travel expenses. Please contact Margaret Turner for more details regarding the financial support available.
