Dear Colleagues,
We are inviting participants to:
?The Role of Entrepreneurial Education in Sustainable Entrepreneurship?
PDW#113
Academy of Management 2013, Friday, Aug 9th, 1:15PM - 3:15PM at WDW Swan
Resort in Swan 1
http://program.aomonline.org/2013/submission.asp?
mode=ShowSession&SessionID=763
Abstract: In keeping with the all academy theme ?Capitalism in Question?
the PDW provides a forum to explore the impact of interdisciplinary
perspectives on how we can approach sustainable entrepreneurship through
entrepreneurial education.
Given that the majority of entrepreneurship research is oriented towards
the economic (Calas et al. 2009), there is a danger that wellbeing, social
and environmental effects may be side-lined as externalities or by-
products of action. However, sustainable development has been recognised
as a critical contemporary issue (Patzelt and Shepherd, 2010) where
development and sustainability have been identified as 2 linked constructs
(Dean and Patzelt, 2011), where the economic is not necessarily dominant.
The PDW focuses on what this link implies for the methods of
entrepreneurial education applied to achieve both goals. It thus
challenges norms, assumptions and theoretical predispositions prevalent
within the field of entrepreneurship.
This workshop differs from traditional approaches by offering an
interactive session organised around provocation, exploration and the
development of context embedded methods. This provides a moment for
professional reflection and the opportunity to discuss context specific
approaches to entrepreneurial pedagogy. Participants will take away a
fresh perspective on their own professional practice.
Structure: We will begin the PDW with ?provocations? that set out
different contexts for ?what is to be sustained? and ?what is to be
developed? (Dean and Patzelt, 2011). These will be the foundation for
roundtable discussions on how we should approach entrepreneurial education
in a multifaceted development environment.
Invite: To enrich these discussions, we invite colleagues to submit
context specific ?provocations? for roundtable discussion. Up to 3 of
these will be selected for discussion based on: commonality of experience;
how well they highlight issues; the role of the academy; and how likely
they are to result in rich discussion. The PDW aims to be integrative and
as such we welcome a diversity of sustainable entrepreneurship ?problems?
from varied contexts and spanning across divisions and national
boundaries.
Please send your suggested ?provocation? to
robert.newbery@plymouth.ac.uk.
We will notify you by the 16th July if you have been chosen to chair a
roundtable discussion.
