PhD Scholarship
"Barriers and enablers for New Zealand Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the building sector engaging with environmental profiling."
The New Zealand Life Cycle Management Centre and the New Zealand Centre for SME Research are offering an exciting opportunity to an outstanding candidate with research interests about SMEs, environmental profiling and its application to the building sector. You will study for a PhD at Massey University in association with the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ).
The PhD will be funded through a BRANZ Scholarship (obtained with support from the Building Research Levy) comprising a tax-exempt stipend of $25,000 per annum for three years of study. The PhD research will be part of a building environmental assessment project being undertaken at BRANZ over the next three years, and so there will be opportunities for practical application of the research results in the building sector.
Topics for consideration may include:
1. Mapping the characteristics of NZ building sector SMEs to better understand potential engagement with environmental profiling.
2. What are the real and perceived barriers to the uptake of environmental profiling by NZ SMEs?
3. What exemplars of best practice, support infrastructure, and practical tools exist internationally to help SMEs engage in this area (in building and other sectors)?
4. How can these be adapted for use by NZ building sector SMEs?
For this PhD scholarship, you will have achieved a Master's or an undergraduate degree (minimum 2:1 Honours) in a relevant subject area. Candidates should have good communication skills, a proven ability to undertake interdisciplinary research, and the initiative and drive to complete their studies in three years.
