On Wednesday, August 12, after the Academy conference in Chicago, I am planning to offer the third workshop for Chinese management scholars. The purpose of this workshop is for scholars to learn how to develop a research-centered, balanced academic career and become dedicated and effective researchers and teachers.

The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. and finish at 6 p.m. at one of the local universities’ downtown facilities. It will target advanced doctoral students and junior faculty in the macro-organizational areas (such as international business and management, entrepreneurship, and organizational theory). We will only accept 40 participants, and workshop entry will be granted on a first-come first-serve basis.

This year, Brian Wu of University of Michigan (wux@bus.umich.edu) and Guoli Chen of INSEAD (guoli.chen@insead.edu) will coordinate the program. If you are interested in participating, please go to workshop program webpage program outline<http://myweb.fcu.edu.tw/~t96062/chen/chinese_scholar/2009/outline.htm>. If you have any logistical questions, please email chinesescholarworkshop@gmail.com<mailto:chinesescholarworkshop@gmail.com> to let us know. For any inquiries about the program, please contact Brian or Guoli directly.

Based on the design of the program and our hope for close interaction and community-building among the attendees, I would like to make the following requests:

First, I would like all attendees to be fully committed to the program by reading all the assigned materials in advance and attending all the sessions.

Second, my plan is to offer this program every other year, beginning in 2009. This year the workshop will be offered on Wednesday, right after the completion of the Academy conference.

Finally, although the workshop is designed for scholars in the macro-organizational fields, please note that most of the cases and readings were selected from the strategic management area, and most are suitable for BPS members.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Best wishes,
