    Date:

    October 23-25, 2009

    Location:

School of Public Policy, George Mason University
Arlington, VA [Virginia Square Metro Stop; 3 miles from Washington, DC]

This workshop and symposium is designed for two groups of participants:

    • Scholars analyzing longitudinal data sets on business creation will have
an opportunity to meet and discuss their efforts as “works in progress” as
they are developed for submission to peer review journals. Those working
with panel data from Australia, Canada, China, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway,
and Sweden are encouraged to attend.

    • Those designing and implementing longitudinal studies of business
creation will have an opportunity to learn from the experiences of those
who have already implemented such panel studies.

If there is sufficient interest, a introduction to panel studies will be
provided on Friday morning, 23 October 2009, and an open discussion on the
design, administration, operational features, and costs of national panel
studies will be organized for the morning of Sunday, 25 October 09.

Participants planning to make a presentation must submit, electronically
via the internet, a working paper no later than 01 September 2009; formal
invitations and the conference agenda will be provided no later than 15
September 2009. Speakers will have an opportunity to present their own work
and they will also be expected to prepare a written review of another paper
and present their comments following the presentation. Datasets that might
be used for these studies include the U.S. Panel Studies of Entrepreneurial
Dynamics (www.psed.info or www.psed.isr.umich.edu); the Global
Entrepreneurship Monitor (www.gemconsortium.org, consolidated file at
ICPSR) or any national longitudinal datasets that focus on business
    creation.

Those planning to attend as observers should notify the organizing
committee of their intentions by September 1, 2009.

There is no registration fee to attend the conference. North American
participants will be responsible for their travel, hotel costs, and some
meals; travel subsidies may be available for those attending from
developing countries. For more information, or to submit a paper, contact
