    Stanford Global Innovation Tournament, November: In conjunction with

    (Nov 16-22), STVP will run an exciting, “Apprentice-style”
    competition in which students from around the world have just a few

    STVP Executive Director, Tina Seelig, has a new book, What I Wish I
    Knew When I Was 20

    (HarperCollins) which will be available on April 14. It is filled
    with stories from her classes on creativity and entrepreneurship at
    Stanford, as well as stories about successful entrepreneurs and
    innovators from around the world. She demonstrates that, by tapping
    into your creativity and having a healthy disregard for the
    impossible, you can turn most problems into opportunities.

    STVP Faculty Co-Director, Tom Byers, recently led a panel discussion
    on entrepreneurship at the Summit on the National Academy of
    Engineering (NAE) Grand Challenges. This event drew leading
    engineering, science, humanities and social science scholars from
    across the nation to talk about what it will take to solve some of the
    world’s most pressing problems. Watch panelists discuss

    the crucial role that entrepreneurship will play.

    Assistant Professor Riitta Katila has been appointed to the
    Editorial Board of Administrative Science Quarterly.

    Ph.D. student Emily Cox has received a 2009 National Science
    Foundation Dissertation Improvement Grant to support her research on
    innovation and investors in the Medical Device industry. The Ewing
    Marion Kauffman Foundation has also awarded her a 2009 Kauffman
    Dissertation Fellowship for her work, "What Type of Investor is Best?
    Funding Innovation in Young Firms." Fifteen fellowships in the amount
    of $20,000 each were awarded to current Ph.D. students who are engaged
    in the study of entrepreneurship at U.S. universities. The fellowships
    were presented at the Allied Social Science Associations' annual
    meeting in San Francisco on Jan. 3, 2009.

    During February 18-25, Stanford welcomed more than 2,000 students,
    alumni and visitors from across the United States and elsewhere in the
    world to Entrepreneurship Week 2009 at Stanford

    . They enjoyed a series of presentations, workshops, networking
    receptions, a job fair, a VC-Student speed dating pitchfest, and a
    variety of other events. The enthusiasm was contagious.

    Speakers included Stanford President John Hennessy talking about
    entrepreneurial leadership; thought leaders such as Tim Draper and
    Eric Benhamou; and representatives from companies like Apple, Nokia,
    Cisco, Raytheon, Genentech and Logitech, among others.
    Entrepreneurship Week is a sampler platter of entrepreneurship
    activities and organizations on campus. It is hosted by the Stanford
