POST DOC OPPORTUNITY
Get a head start in your academic career! The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Research Cluster (EIC) at Queensland University of Technology, Australia, is offering the opportunity to spend 12- 24 months as salaried Post Doc at our school. This is one of nine Post Doctoral Research Fellowships being offered by the Faculty of Business. This position will be filled by a young researcher with a completed Ph.D. (before the end of 2009), who aspires to contribute to the international research frontier in entrepreneurship and/or innovation, and who has already shown promise of such ability. Very limited teaching will be expected.
EIC is rapidly making progress towards reaching its ambitious goal of establishing itself in the international elite in entrepreneurship research. For example, we had 11 papers by 8 different authors accepted to the highly competitive Babson Conference (BCERC) conference this year – including a current and two former Post Docs. The EIC team has recently been awarded the largest business/economics Discovery Grant in the country by the Australian Research Council and several other large research grants, and Entrepreneurship & Innovation has also become a recognized research area with internal funding from the QUT Faculty of Business. Professor Per Davidsson, the Faculty of Business's Research Director, was last year elected to the executive of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, and is this year vice program chair. We have had recent hits in journals like Strategic Management Journal; Journal of Business Venturing; Journal of Management Studies; Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice; Academy of Management Learning and Education; Small Business Economics; Journal of Business Ethics, and many others. In 2007 we hosted the regional BCERC equivalent, the AGSE Entrepreneurship Research Exchange. We have an increasing number of research students in entrepreneurship, and we often host visiting academics in this field. When QUTs MBA program made the Financial Times top 100 list in 2004 it was the first in Queensland to ever do so, and only the third in Australia. The QUT Faculty of business was also the first in the country to achieve "Triple Crown Accreditation" (AACSB; AMBA; EQUIS).
It is in this vibrant, fast paced environment that we want one young and ambitious researcher to contribute to and benefit from for 12 to 24 months in 2009-11. The position would give the right candidate an excellent opportunity to further develop their thesis (or other already on-going work) to published papers as well as to get involved in new projects in collaboration with members of our staff. Initially positions would be offered for 12 months with the opportunity to extend each appointment for another 12 months if both parties agree. Office, computer facilities and opportunities for conference travel will be provided. EIC benefits from QUT's excellent library resources, which give electronic access to a very large number of journals. Further information on the Faculty's research programs can be found at www.bus.qut.edu.au/research/acbr
EIC is located at the Gardens Point campus in the central parts of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. Brisbane is a growing city of 1.5 million with easy access to the beaches at Gold and Sunshine Coasts as well as the rainforest parks in the hinterland. For further information about Brisbane, use this link: www.ourbrisbane.com.
The Post Doctoral salary is currently AUD $68,448 per annum (currently the AUD is approximately equivalent to 0.7 USD). Costs of living in Brisbane are reasonable.
Applicants must have finished their Ph.D. before taking up the position, and should preferably be able to commence before the end of 2009. Application forms and guidelines may be obtained from the Research Support Office or via the web at http://www.bus.qut.edu.au/research/researchsupp/forms.jsp.
The application must be received by the Team Leader, Research Support Office, Faculty of Business, Level 7, Z Block, Gardens Point Campus, GPO Box 2434 Brisbane 4001 by no later than Tuesday 30 June 2009.
Note that we have only one position of this kind and that it will be very competitive. Before lodging a formal application you may want to explore the opportunity further. If you are a serious applicant and plan to attend the upcoming BCERC (Babson) conference in Boston you are welcome to email Professor Per Davidsson (per.davidsson@qut.edu.au) to request an informal meeting to discuss the opportunity further. Interested candidates can make a first, informal contact by sending an email to Associate Professor Paul Steffens (p.steffens@qut.edu.au) or Professor Per Davidsson. If you do so, make sure you include the following information:
a) time and place where PhD was/is being earned, b) title of thesis as well as main theory and methodological approach used in the thesis work; c) publications and conference presentations so far, d) intended use of Post Doc time, e) specific reason for wanting to spend a Post Doc year at QUT/EIC.
