  • 1.  Chapter or article explaining patents and IP protection

    Posted 03-27-2009 10:45

    Dear Colleagues,

I am assembling a reading package for an MBA level elective course on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and am looking for a chapter or article that explains?patents and intellectual property protection. The 'ideal' resource would be about 5-10 pages in length and would compare similarities/differences between US, Canadian and perhaps European systems. (the course is being offered at a Canadian university). I have looked through the Harvard Press website to see what they have available and have found some potential resources, but the ones I have found?explain?only the US system.

    All?suggestions are most welcome!

    Chris

    Hi Chris:
I would check out Bronwyn Hall's website at UC-Berkeley (research papers and summaries):

    http://elsa.berkeley.edu/~bhhall/

Bronwyn is the world's leading expert on patents and global IP protection,  She has several user-friendly research papers and summaries (see those links on her website)-I don't believe those are patent-protected (just kidding)!

    Best regards,
    Don

For a succinct review, contact Constance Bagley and Craig Dauchy, who together wrote the Entrepreneur's Guide to Business Law.  The book's chapter on IP is very succinct, although it does not compare IP regimes across countries.
