  • 1.  How to teach OB for Entrepreneurs, in particular team issues?

    Dear colleagues:

I am preparing to teach OB issues in an executive program about
    Entrepreneurship.

Would you have advice on how to teach "OB for the entrepreneurs", for
instance suggesting curriculum/textbook/cases? (I already teach an OB
course, my goal is to contextualize the message ;-)

In addition, I'd like to cover extensively issues about groups/teams:
    • what makes groups to function properly
    • what makes outstanding group performance
    • how to manage group conflicts
    • etc.

In terms of method, it'd be great to favor experiential learning using for
    instance *games*, *simulations*, etc.

I am already aware of material available at Human Synergistics and Kellog
(but those are paying), and a few generalist books about team games.

Would you know of a good textbook/site/etc. that present team exercises of
good quality and explain how to integrate them pedagogically into an OB
    and/or Entrepreneurship focus?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

Hi, Fabrice, my colleagues and I, Todd Darnold and Kim McCarthy, have been studying multidisciplinary team behavior in the context of our NSF-funded Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program.  The first article, which reviews the interdisciplinary teaming literature and describes our BEP program, from that project came out in January, 2009 in a special education issue of the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology.  The second paper, which analyzes first wave of data, is under review at JCB right now and has been accepted for a poster session at this year's Academy.  We would be happy to share what we've done.  It's a great area to explore in entrepreneurship.  Todd probably has the most content and teaching expertise in the area. With respect to free materials, that is a challenge - I've looked for them, too.  There are two issues:  there aren't many available for free and the ones that are are overused, so the chance that some in your program will have done things like the Arctic or Desert Survival exercise would be high.  I've found a new one - I call it house of cards - on the Stanford REE website from the fall, 2007.  Best, Anne
