This years OBTS DOCTORAL INSTITUTE takes place June 8-10, 2009, immediately
prior to the OBTC Teaching Conference for Management Educators, at the
College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.
The Doctoral Institute provides promising new teacher-scholars with an
opportunity to plan for a cohesive academic life, one that is attentive to
excellence in teaching, research, and personal balance. To address a
cohesive academic life, the DI pursues two purposes for promising scholars
from research-oriented universities:
Provide development as teachers, and
Explore pathways to individual scholarly goals.
The DI addresses the question: How do emerging new Ph.D.s become productive
teachers and scholars, while enjoying a rewarding personal life?
We achieve these goals through an interactive series of rich and reflective
seminars over two days with world-class faculty known for their research and
teaching. This years Distinguished Faculty include
Allan Cohen, Babson College
David Bradford, Stanford University
Jim Clawson, Darden School, University of Virginia
Kim Cameron, University of Michigan
Candace Brush, Babson College
Jennifer Leigh, Nazareth College (Recipient, OBTS 2008 New Educator Award)
The $800 Institute fee includes registration, housing, meals and all social
activities for both the Doctoral Institute and the Teaching Conference (OBTC
June 10-13, 2009), considered by many as the premier management teaching
conference in North America. A limited number of scholarships are available.
The Doctoral Institute enrolls a limited number of participants to insure
personal attention. To apply, obtain more information on registration, or
find out more about nominating a student from your school, send an e-mail
inquiry to Dr. Kristi Tyran at
kristi.tyran@wwu.edu. The Institute will
accept applications through March 30, and announce acceptances by April 15,
2009.
