The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications
and nominations for the El Pomar Chair in Business and Entrepreneurship. A
nationally accredited, comprehensive, regional research university and one
of the nation’s fastest growing universities, UCCS is Southern Colorado’s
premier research institution, offering a broad range of degree programs in
the liberal arts and sciences in addition to professional programs in
business, engineering, nursing, education, and public affairs to meet the
needs of Colorado’s second-largest metropolitan region. Designated as the
growth campus of the University of Colorado, UCCS has been named “a top
Western public university” by U.S. News and World Report, ranked 7th in 2008.

Endowed by El Pomar Foundation, the El Pomar Chair in Business and
Entrepreneurship (EPCBE) is a unique position that is jointly responsible to
the College of Business and Administration (COB) and the El Pomar Institute
for Innovation and Commercialization (EPIIC). The EPCBE is one of three
distinguished chairs funded by El Pomar Foundation; together, these Chairs
form the Management team of EPIIC. The Chair’s time is divided equally
between responsibilities for EPIIC and responsibilities within the COB for
teaching, scholarship, and service. The Chair will be expected to conduct
research, develop community relations, build interdisciplinary relationships
across campus, and attract financial resources to further the mission of the
COB. The other half of the El Pomar Chair’s responsibilities will be devoted
to EPIIC activities, such as assisting entrepreneurs and innovators with
joint research work, hosting EPIIC symposiums and conferences, and providing
technical advice to businesses and industries in the Colorado Springs area.
It is expected that the El Pomar Chair will be actively involved in the
community and in maintaining AACSB academic qualifications. The EPCBE must
be committed to the mission of EPIIC and to making EPIIC “the epicenter of
    entrepreneurship” within the region.

UCCS seeks an academic leader of vision and imagination with the ability to
convene, empower, take action, and communicate effectively. S/he must be
open to new ideas, eager to build partnerships, inspirational in motivating
faculty and students, and committed to spurring innovation and enabling
growth in the region. The successful candidate will possess an earned
doctorate in business or related field; a record of scholarly accomplishment
appropriate to appointment as a tenured faculty member in the College of
Business; a track record of distinction in his or her discipline, a strong
commitment to excellence in the classroom, a record of successful
grantsmanship, substantial expertise in finance as it relates to
entrepreneurship; the ability to teach courses in entrepreneurial finance or
other relevant aspects of entrepreneurship; and a strong track record of
community involvement in economic development. Experience as an
entrepreneur and/or experience in significantly contributing to the
development of start-up companies would be highly desirable as would success
in developing strategic partnerships and relationships with the private sector.

Nominations or a letter of application accompanied by a curriculum vitae and
the names of five references should be submitted electronically in
    confidence to UCCS-ElPomarChair@divsearch.com
