    Greetings:

For those of you attending the USASBE conference in Anaheim in January, you may be interested in the following pre-conference session. My colleagues, Sanford Ehrlich, Craig Galbraith and I have been asked to assemble an all day pre-conference dedicated to research and teaching in the field of Technology Entrepreneurship. We designed it for people wishing to advance their academic careers in this area. Please see the description below about the pre-conference session and the list of people who will be serving on the various panels throughout the day on January 8. If you are interested, please register for this pre-conference session on the USASBE web page.

We hope to see you there.

Research and Teaching Issues in Technology Entrepreneurship, Technology Commercialization and Technology Management

This workshop is designed for those individuals seeking to enhance their academic careers through research and teaching in areas related to technology entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and technology management. The day will be sub-divided into four themed panel discussions. We will begin with a panel discussion with emerging and established technology researchers talking about fruitful directions for future research in these important areas. They will share with the audience their research agendas, thoughts on current trends in publishing, and react to research ideas from workshop participants.

For the second panel, we have invited 3 experienced private equity investors involved with early stage technology companies. They will offer their perspectives on viable and fundable technology-based business models. The audience will have the opportunity to query them on critical questions from practice that can inform future research agendas.

For the third panel discussion, we have invited several academics and two investors (from the morning session) to discuss their experiences in teaching classes related to technology entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and technology management. We will learn about different pedagogies used in the classroom. The audience will also have a chance to share ideas on teaching pedagogies.

Finally, for the fourth panel discussion, we have invited an executive from Fortune 500 firm, Qualcomm, one of the world’s leaders in wireless technology, to discuss a unique program “QIN Venturefest” designed to stimulate technology entrepreneurship under the corporate umbrella. He will discuss the experiences and challenges of corporate entrepreneurs who have been funded by Qualcomm to commercialize new technologies. He also will discuss how he drew from this experience in subsequently offering a graduate course in Corporate Entrepreneurship.

Throughout the day, workshop participants will have the opportunity to interact with all panel presenters, and each other, during scheduled breaks in the morning and afternoon and during lunch.
