Business Plan Competition advice sought

    Hello Everyone:

As many of us approach or contend with Final Exam week, I wanted to draw upon the collective wisdom of listserv members regarding business plan competitions.  We here at the Brock School of Business are currently formulating plans for our first (hopefully, annual) student business plan competition, and I was wondering if, based on your experiences,  some of you might have suggested "do's" and "don'ts" when running one.

For example, we are assessing a couple of different presentation formats such as the standard auditorium-style business plan presentation with the audience and judges seated, a "science-fair" format where audience members and judges can wander around business plan exhibits, or an "elevator-pitch" format involving just competitors and judges.  We may also employ a combination of these across two rounds of judging.

If you have had success with a business plan competition, I (and, I'm sure other list members) would value your advice.  Any suggestions for what not to do would also be welcome.  I will be happy to compile and disseminate all suggestions.

Thanks so much for your insights.
