    Carlton Highsmith Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship

     

    OVERVIEW:

    The department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy in the School of Business and Engineering seeks a dynamic individual for a tenure track Associate or Full Professor appointment for the newly created Carlton Highsmith Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship.  Quinnipiac's B.S. in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management seeks to become a nationally recognized program, and the endowed chair will play a vital leadership role in achieving this goal.  The department seeks an individual who is can work effectively with department colleagues and other key stakeholders across the School of Business and the university to enhance the visibility of the Entrepreneurship program.  (For more information about this gift:  http://www.quinnipiac.edu/news-and-events/carlton-highsmith-donates-1-million/)

    About the Entrepreneurship Program: Members of the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy work closely with the entrepreneurship students helping them develop and launch their business ideas. Our senior year experience where students create a business plan in the fall and then work to implement their business in an intensive spring semester experience, provides students with the knowledge and skills needed by entrepreneurs today.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The endowed chair will help to develop this program further by extending outreach to the business community, to entrepreneurs, and to alumni to build a base of individuals who can further mentor and assist our students with their business ideas.

     

    The endowed chair will teach entrepreneurship courses according to their area of expertise and interest. These courses may include: Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Small Business Marketing, Entrepreneurial Finance, Business Plan Creation, and Social Entrepreneurship. New course ideas within the department are encouraged. The course load will be reduced as appropriate to the level of other activities conducted by the chair.

     

    Externally, the endowed chair will represent the entrepreneurship program, the School of Business, and the university to the outside business community and build networks of contacts that may serve as resources to the students and the university.  Within the university community, the endowed chair may extend outreach to build relationships with other programs on campus, such as the newly created medical school and the engineering programs.

     

    The chair will continue to research and publish in leading journals in the field of entrepreneurship, and help support research in the department. The chair will also manage the budget associated with the endowed chair position and will develop supplemental programs to support student achievement and entrepreneurial activity.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum requirements include:  

    Overall combination of experience, research and service that will warrant appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or full Professor. Specifically:

    ·       A Ph.D. or other terminal degree from a highly respected institution in entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic management, or germane academic specialty.

    o   Alternatively, a doctorate in a field of interest to entrepreneurship (including but not limited to engineering or science), plus a Master's degree in Business Administration and entrepreneurial work experience. 

    ·       Demonstrated active research and publication record in top-tier journals in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation or related area.

    ·       Evidence of high-quality teaching experience in entrepreneurship preferably at an AACSB-accredited institution. Appointment to an Associate or full Professor rank would require at least 5 years experience in higher education.

    ·       Professional experience as an entrepreneur is highly desirable.
