We, Raja Roy (Management Department, LeBow College of Business, Drexel University) and Rahul Kapoor (Management Department, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania) invite you to attend a PDW on technological disruption. The details are as follows--

Title: Technological Disruption: After almost 20 years of Bower and Christensen's seminal paper, what do we know and what are the unanswered questions?

Sponsored by: TIM, BPS, and ENT Divisions

Location: Offsite at Room 408, Gerri C. LeBow Hall, Drexel University, 3220 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (please note the change in room #; directions to the GCL Hall are given below).

About Gerri C. LeBow Hall: Drexel University's LeBow College of Business recently inaugurated their $90 million new building, the Gerri C. LeBow Hall, in December 2013, and it is one of the most beautiful business school buildings in the world (source: http://www.topmanagementdegrees.com/beautiful-business-schools/). We are organizing our PDW in this new 177,500 sq. ft facility, which is located on Market Street in the University City area of Philadelphia (https://www.lebow.drexel.edu/about/campuses/philadelphia).

    Time: Friday, Aug 1 2014, 4:00PM - 6:00PM

Description: The theory of disruptive innovation (Bower and Christensen, 1995; Christensen, 1997) has attracted a remarkable level of interest and has profoundly affected the innovation literature. On the approaching 20th anniversary of the original ideas, we feel it is time to take stock of the stream of work that has investigated disruptive change. A few relevant questions that can help us explore future trajectory of the research on disruption are:  Where are we now in terms of theory and research? What do we know about disruption? What are the boundary conditions of the theory? What are some of the unanswered questions? What may be some of the promising directions for future research?  The two-hour workshop will explore answers to these questions, aim to generate new insights, and suggest directions for future research.  The format will include presentations by panelists, followed by panel discussion, and Q&A.

    Panelists

    i) Ron Adner, Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College

ii) Rajshree Agarwal, Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland

iii) Donna DeCarolis, Close School of Entrepreneurship, Drexel University

iv) Rahul Kapoor., The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania

    v) Raja Roy, LeBow College of Business, Drexel University

vi) Jim Wilson, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Directions to the Gerri C. LeBow Hall, Drexel University: The offsite location is about 1.5 miles from the Philadelphia Convention Center and is easily accessible by public transportation-Market-Frankford line of subway and bus. Taxicabs are yet another option or you may decide to walk 35-40 minutes along the Market Street to reach the location.

From the Pennsylvania Convention Center (by subway): Walk about a quarter of a mile to the 11th Street Station (located at the intersection of Market Street and 11th Street) and take the westbound Market-Frankford subway going towards the 69th Street. Get off at the fourth station after the 11th Street-the 34th Street/University City station (located at the intersection of Market Street and 34th Street). Walk another quarter of a mile (about 1.5 blocks; eastwards; towards Center City or downtown) along the Market Street, cross the 33rd Street (with "Mario the Dragon" statue on our right), and the Gerri C. LeBow Hall will be the second building on your right. The subway trains operate every 5 minutes or so and take about 7 minutes to reach the 34th Street station (see this link for the detailed timing-- http://www.septa.org/schedules/transit/w/MFL_1.htm). The fare is $2.25 (cash fare) one-way, or you may buy two tokens for $3.80 (cash fare) if you are planning to take the subway for both ways of your travel. See this website for more details http://www.septa.org/fares/transit/index.html. The following Google map may help you plan for alternative routes to the Gerri C LeBow Hall-- http://goo.gl/maps/TB7hU. We are trying to arrange for a van service from the Philadelphia Convention Center to the Gerri C LeBow Hall and will send out another announcement with the details, if we are successful in arranging for one. However, the capacity of the van will be limited and we suggest that you plan for one of the alternative means of transportation mentioned above.
