With the higher education business model under attack as outdated, ineffective and overly expensive (Wiener-Bronner, 2011), as professors we need to find ways to engage our most important constituent, students. One way to do this is to become more innovative in the classroom. Historically, the entrepreneurship division has directly addressed the need for novelty in the classroom through its Innovation in Entrepreneurship Pedagogy Award. This award, is given each year for the most innovative course, where the criteria for innovative is determined by a number of well-defined parameters. In an attempt to encourage new innovation in entrepreneurship pedagogy, one of the objectives of the teaching committee is to share the best practices of the award winners. That is the purpose of this Professional Development Workshop (PDW). Our goal is to share ideas around innovative practices in the classroom and encourage the development of new ideas. Drawing on the expertise of former Innovation in Entrepreneurship Pedagogy Award winners, the workshop uses a two part format which includes presentations by award winners coupled with breakout sessions to provide session participants with the opportunity to share innovative ideas. In sum, this PDW attempts to not only "spread the word" with respect to award winning pedagogical innovations, but also to engage participants in a continuing dialogue around innovative classroom practices.
We hope you will join us in what is sure to be an interesting and engaging session!
