The MHR Department in the Wisconsin School of Business at the UW-Madison is searching for two tenure-track/tenured faculty members in innovation/creativity/entrepreneurship to start Fall 2015. We especially seek candidates having interests in entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, and the commercialization of technology. Scholars with research or teaching interests that link these topics to other areas in the department, such as strategy, human resources, organizational behavior, organization theory are of interest. Discipline oriented candidates who wish to build a career contributing to business scholarship are encouraged to apply. Rank is open. Salary, benefits, and rank for the positions are competitive and based on applicant qualifications and experience.
Candidates are expected to produce high quality, high impact research. Teaching excellence is also expected and in as broad a range of programs as possible. We currently offer full-time undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. degrees, as well as part-time MBA and executive education programs geared toward working professionals. The ability to make important external and internal service contributions is also a key criterion. (Expectations here depend on rank.) Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or be firmly on track to complete their Ph.D. by August 2015. Those seeking an initial tenured rank should have a very strong established record of scholarship as evidenced by quality publications and citations of their work.
Current tenure track members of the MHR Department are Ray Aldag, Russ Coff, Randy Dunham, Jon Eckhardt, Barry Gerhart, Chip Hunter, Chad Navis, Hart Posen, Sarada, Jihae Shin, Alex Stajkovic, Ann Terlaak, Charlie Trevor, and Mary Triana.
The Wisconsin School of Business recently received a unique $85 million "naming" gift from a group of dedicated alumni. This gift, now approaching $100 million, provides strong support to enhance recruiting, retaining, and facilitating the success of a world-class faculty. The School is housed in Grainger Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that recently completed $40 million expansion. The nearby Fluno Center, our $28-million Executive Education Facility, is outstanding for executive-education programs.
The 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) ranked UW-Madison 19th in the world. In the U.S., UW-Madison was ranked among the top 5 public universities and is typically ranked in the top 3 for total research expenditures. UW-Madison is a leader in study abroad, area studies, and foreign language education. We produce a leading number of Peace Corps volunteers and are among the top 5 for number of Ph.D. degrees granted. A recent survey found that UW-Madison tied for first (with Harvard) for the number of alumni serving as CEOs of S&P 500 firms. UW-Madison is also home to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the oldest U.S. technology transfer office.
Madison, a beautiful city on the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona, was recently ranked the 8th best city for quality of life by Prevention Magazine: "Madison's low crime rates and easy-to-find, budget-friendly healthy foods make it our No. 1 pick for city life." It has been named one of the best cities for outdoor enthusiasts and in which to raise children. The Overture Center, a $200 million complex near campus, provides a variety of exciting cultural and entertainment options along with independent theaters, including the open-air American Players Theatre in nearby Spring Green.
