In a new book published with MIT Press, Alicia Robb and I have
conducted an extensive analysis of the effects of education on
business outcomes (closure rate, sales, profits and employment) using
confidential, restricted-access data from the U.S. Census Bureau. It
is difficult to find detailed data on both owner's education and
business outcomes. We also review several previous studies on the
