EI Pomar Chair of Business and Entrepreneurship
    College of Business and Administration
and Graduate School of Business Administration
    University of Colorado, Colorado Springs

The Chancellor's Office, College of Business (COB) and Administration and
the El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization (EPIIC) at the
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for
the position of EI Pomar Chair of Business and Entrepreneurship. This
unique position is a split appointment between the College of Business and
EPIIC, and is not a research chair. To be qualified, applicants must have
a doctoral degree in business or related field, preferably from an AACSB
accredited institution, with a record of accomplishment appropriate to be
appointed as a tenured faculty member in the COB at the associate or full
professor-level. Preferences will be given to applicants who exhibit
traits from among a national or international standing in his/her
discipline, a strong commitment to excellence in the classroom,
grantsmanship, a record of community involvement with economic
development, substantial expertise in finance, and an ability to teach
    courses in enterpreneurship.

This position is endowed by El Pomar Foundation, one of the leading
private, general purpose philanthropic organizations in the Rocky Mountain
West. Established in 1937, El Pomar Foundation http://www.elpomar.org
provides resources and opportunities to nonprofit organizations involved
with arts and humanities, education, health, human services and civic and
community initiatives. Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed
more than a quarter of a billion dollars throughout Colorado to programs
and projects that have helped to define the Centennial State.

In 1990, the University of Colorado received an historic grant from El
Pomar Foundation to establish EPIIC (http://www.EPIIC.uccs.edu). The
Institute acts as a bridge between scholarly disciplines, industry, and
the wider community, and enables unique public/private partnerships that
encourage the transfer of technology applications to development
opportunities and economic solutions. The innovation process and the
synthesis of research, ideas, design, product realization, marketing, and
process development that transfers new ideas to benefit society are at the
core of EPIIC's set of activities. This is all directed at the common
mission of the El Pomar Foundation, UCCS, and EPIIC - economic development
in the Pikes Peak region - with a particular focus on the development,
mentoring, and funding of startup technology companies.

Through the unique partnership between UCCS and El Pomar, EPIIC supports
the work of three El Pomar endowed professorships. Fifty percent of the
holder's time in this position will be devoted to the College of Business
and Administration teaching entrepreneurial courses (one of which will be
in the area of entrepreneurial finance), conducting research in his/her
respective discipline, developing community relations, building
interdisciplinary relationships across campus, and the attraction of
financial resources to further the mission of the COB. Fifty percent of an
El Pomar Chair's responsibilities are devoted to EPIIC activities. Such
activities include, but are not limited to, assisting entrepreneurs and
innovators with joint research work, hosting EPIIC symposiums and
conferences, and providing technical advice to businesses and industries
in the Colorado Springs area. Community involvement and maintaining AACSB
academic qualifications are expectations of the position.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (http://www.uccs.edu), with
more than 7,900 enrolled students, is the University of Colorado's
designated growth campus and one of the nation's fastest growing
universities. It is a nationally accredited, comprehensive, regional,
research university located in the Pikes Peak region, a center of high-
technology industry and military facilities. There are abundant
opportunities for collaboration with computer, communications,
microelectronics, and aerospace industries. The metropolitan area is home
to over 500,000 people. In addition to abundant recreational and cultural
activities, Colorado Springs is home to the U.S. Olympic Training Center,
and the United States Air Force Academy.

The College of Business Administration and the Graduate School of Business
Administration (http://business.uccs.edu) awards the Bachelor of Science
degree in Business Administration and the Master of Business
Administration (MBA). Students may pursue an MBA either through our on-
campus program or via distance learning. Both degree programs are
accredited by the AACSB International. There are approximately 1068
undergraduate majors and 450 graduate students. Faculty and student
diversity is important to the campus and the College. Currently, 18.3% of
the College student population consists of minority students. The College
works diligently to increase the pipeline of students interested in
business, particularly women and underserved students, through its
    outreach and its curriculum activities.

The holder of the El Pomar Chair has a unique opportunity to define the
vision and activities of EPIIC regarding its relationship with students,
the campus, the community, and regional technology innovators.
Application letters expressing a clear vision for building and continuing
these relationships will make the greater impression. Applicants must
submit this application letter, a current vita, and contact information
for three references via http://epiic.uccs.edu/. The position is fully
funded to begin in the fall of 2009. Applicant review will begin
immediately and continue until the position is filled. The University of
Colorado at Colorado Springs fosters equity in employment by promoting
    diversity and assuring inclusiveness.

Dr. Brian McAllister and Dr. George Woodward, Professors in the College of
Business and Administration, will be attending the 2008 FMA Annual
Meeting, October 8 -11, 2008 in Grapevine, Texas. Questions about the
position may be sent to either co-chair of the search committee: Dr.
Michael Larson at larson@eas.uccs.edu or Dr. Gary Klein at gklein@uccs.edu.
