Job Description
The strategic framework for the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business
encompasses a commitment to foster attributes and values imbedded in
principles of (1) Ethical Leadership, (2) Global Vision, (3)Analytical
Rigor, and (4) Entrepreneurial Spirit. In light of this strategic
framework, the School seeks a dynamic and seasoned entrepreneur to serve
as the Executive Director of Entrepreneurial Programs (EDEP).
The individual chosen to lead our efforts in entrepreneurship will help
create powerful leverage for engaging large numbers of friends, alumni,
business leaders and students in innovative learning environments that
clearly demonstrate how the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business is a
recognized engine of growth for the state, the nation and the world. He,
or she, will be responsible for attracting likeminded entrepreneurs from
throughout the country to serve as mentors and advisors for initiatives
that fall under the EDEP umbrella. He/she will also be expected to lead
our fundraising effort—with a goal to raise $10 million—to establish a
named Center for Entrepreneurship.
In meeting the Utah State University land-grant mission, we expect that
the executive director will work closely with the Utah Small Business
Development Center (SBDC), Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR)
initiative office, the E-station at Innovation Campus, the Utah State
University Technology Commercialization Office (TCO), a new joint-venture
project called the Entrepreneur and Business Resource Center (EBRC) in
Cache Valley, and other outreach centers and programs within the Huntsman
School. This individual will also coordinate academic programs and
entrepreneurship initiatives with our regional campus network, and work to
leverage our unique position as the land-grant institution of the state.
In addition to specific administrative responsibilities associated with
the position, the selected individual will be expected to utilize seasoned
executive experience in supporting Huntsman School initiatives in the four
core areas of our strategic framework.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include the following:
1. Direct the establishment of an acclaimed Entrepreneurship Center
at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, and cultivate the necessary
relationship capital that will garner sufficient resources to fund the
center.
2. Bring together a founders organization (alumni and friends) to
support the development of innovative Center programs and initiatives.
These founders would also be used as mentors in the Center, as speakers in
our entrepreneurship classes, and occasionally be in charge of special
topics courses. They will also serve as ambassadors for the Center who
will identify and recruit other resources to support the entrepreneurial
programs of the Huntsman School.
3. Create context for interdisciplinary interest in Center programs.
The Center must also be seen as a resource to students of other
disciplines, especially those in science and engineering, who aspire to
apply the tools and principles of entrepreneurship in reaching their
career aspirations.
4. Create an investment fund(s) where students can learn and apply
the fundamentals of analytically based due diligence processes.
5. Market the services of the Entrepreneurship Center through our
Regional Campus network.
6. Provide leadership in building a culture of innovation within the
Huntsman School that fosters an entrepreneurial mindset and professional
corporate image. Assist the faculty, staff and administration of the HSB
in developing academic innovation and teamwork and foster practical
academic reseach with impact.
7. Create an expanded set of value-added learning opportunities for
students within the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business that leverage their
innate sense of entrepreneurial inquisitiveness.
8. Create space in the academic market place that will bring
recognition to the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business and Utah State
University as innovators and leaders.
9. Foster within the Huntsman School a culture that reflects
commitment to academic and operational excellence.
10. Teach both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in
Huntsman School academic programs and curriculum.
Required Job Qualifications
1. Interpersonal skills that demonstrate a commitment to open
communication and team leadership.
2. Experience in diverse domestic and international entrepreneurial
ventures, and demonstrated ability to lead business organizations.
3. Established track record as a “rainmaker.”
4. High ethical standards, a commitment to excellence, and the
ability to lead change in a rapidly growing university environment.
5. Innate appreciation for creating value within an academic
environment. Demonstrated passion for learning and ethical leadership, and
the desire to cultivate these characteristics within our students.
Preferred Job Qualification
1. Terminal degree that would qualify applicant for an academic
appointment within one of the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business academic
units.
