  • 1.  Launch of IDEA Awards for Entrepreneurship Research

    Posted 05-17-2008 22:09

    Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management and the University of Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, we are writing to invite you to nominate candidates for the IDEA Awards, an important new addition to the series of awards offered by the Division to "grow entrepreneurship scholars" through research excellence.

At this year's Academy of Management meeting we will be holding the first annual IDEA Awards dinner, honoring excellence in entrepreneurship research. We therefore seek high quality research that has been, is, or likely to be influential to the field of entrepreneurship -- thus, we are using a very broad cross-disciplinary conceptualization of entrepreneurship that, for example, encompasses work in business formation, corporate entrepreneurship, creativity, family business, innovation, institutions and entrepreneurship, new value creation, opportunity, technology entrepreneurship, venture capital, etc. In the years to come, we believe an IDEA Award will become one of the most highly prized and respected awards in our field.

In particular, we will be presenting awards in the following categories:

Seminal Paper - A classic and highly influential contribution to entrepreneurship research that serves as a legacy for scholarly work in the field

Thought Leader - Best published papers in entrepreneurship from the prior year (2007).

Research Promise - Best papers submitted to the 2008 Academy of Management Conference or currently in progress that has yet to be published, including dissertations that have NOT won any other ENT Division dissertation award (e.g., Heizer, NFIB, etc.).

To provide the widest opportunity for participation, we solicit your considered input for the above awards. If possible, please identify 2-3 nominations per category by June 15, 2008.

This year, the IDEA Awards dinner will be held in Anaheim, Tuesday August, 12th 2008. This will be an invitation only event and details on the location and time will be sent out in the coming months.

We look forward to receiving your nominations. Again, the deadline for your nominations is June 15, 2008. Please email your nominations to the following address: idea-awards@business.uconn.edu.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

    Best regards,

    Ron Mitchell

While self-nominations will be accepted, they do not fully capture the spirit of the Call which is to look beyond one's own scholarship toward conceptualizing contributions to the field.
