RES: [ENTREP] Defining entrepreneurial firms

A firm can stay entrepreneurial even after founder's replacement. Large
organizations can be entrepreneurial also depending on its capability to
generate new ventures, process changes, product and services
innovations, business remodeling, new market approaches, pioneering
changes, implement risky projects, cultivate an internal climate that
stimulates experiments and reward successful initiatives or learning by
    trying.

    Great question: let me try.

An entrepreneurial firm is driven and led by a founding entrepreneur
towards a single purpose who accumulates early adopters that share the
vision and are committed to reach next risk-reducing milestones. A firm
ceases its entrepreneurial zeal upon the founder's replacement and then
    becomes an emerging firm.

    Hi Manjula,

I struggled with this for a while. I looked at definitions and often
found them hard to apply. I then tried "an entrepreneur is like a
giraffe, hard to describe but you know one when you see on." Also
unsatisfying. I now rely on the five dimensions of entrepreneurial
orientation - proactiveness, innovativeness, risk-taking, autonomy, and
competitive aggressivenes. The more proactive, the more
    entrepreneurial;
the more innovative, the more entrepreneurial, etc. Hope this helps.

    Regards,
    Fredric Kropp
