Hi Geoff,
That's a good question, that I made myself when GEW came to Brazil a few years ago, headed by Endeavor Institute. Today Brazil is one of the most active countries on GEW with thousands of activities running in November.
If you look outside, you are right, your initiatives would be lost among so many...
But I suggest you to look inside. Why don't you take this movement and engage the students at RRU? GEW is supposed to be an inspirational movement, more than educational. Here in Brazil, during GEW, it is impossible not to see something related to entrepreneurship. Some of the most impactful media are fully engaged in GEW, including TV, newspaper, magazines, internet, all. If you have never heard about entrepreneurship, in November you would definitely know what it is.
Your initiatives at RRU would mean nothing among these wide range events, but, on the other hand, could cause some impact to your community when they get the message not only in the campus, but at the same time, outside the campus. Your students would understand the movement not only Prof. Archer's speech. Many of them get involved, not because of you but because people use to enjoy being part of something big.
One event each day is one thing, you can cause great impact, but GEW causes other type of impact. The number of parallel activities is the impact itself.
I use to schedule some activities to my internal audience only, like speeches, round tables, awards and competitions (volunteer students are engaged to coordinate this in our Entrepreneurship Center). I also have one large event for external audience, taking advantage of the huge exposition of GEW to promote our school with something very different from all those. In our case, we organize a nationwide corporate innovation competition, specifically for MBA students, in which groups of students representing their schools have to propose an innovative solution to a real life business dilemma presented by sponsor companies like Pepsico, Bunge, Diageo and others. The finals and award ceremony happens during GEW and we get some exposure at the media because it is a different project among GEW activities.
So, there are ways to avoid maximum anonymity, you just have to be creative enough to differentiate your proposal.

Assunto: [ENTREP] What value do you find in GEW (Global Entrep. Week)?
Since its inception, Global Entrepreneurship Week (http://www.gew.co/about) has grown and grown...yet I have never jumped on board. I just don't get it. I have met the President (who narrates that video). I have seen the colorful buttons for the lapel of your sport coat. I want one. I still don't really comprehend the value derived from coordinating one university's entrepreneurship-related club activities with (literally) 35,000 other simultaneous activities. Why would I deliberately plan for my event to get lost in the loudest possible noise? I can imagine that if there was only one event each day – even on each continent or in each country - then there would be value to having one's event listed in the larger directory...but once the social movement is at this scale does it not ensure maximum anonymity? I am writing to ask about your experiences, because I have been wrong before...
· I didn't get PayPal for months. I just couldn't understand what people meant by sending money through email. Do I feed the dollars into the disk drive slot?
· I turned down an interview at YouTube in 2004, because I thought that stupid cat videos were of no value/ not the basis of a sustainable business model.
Will GEW be the third item on this dubious list? Or will I get into it for November, 2014? Up to you, colleagues...
