    Jeff,

We conducted a large quantitative analysis in Brazil about the causes that make entrepreneurial initiatives to survive after 5 years of life. Our studies showed that education has a positive correlation to entrepreneurial success, but only basic education. We found it curious that more education do not necessarily corresponds to higher success rate. High college degree, for example, did not show significative effect on the number of years the business survived. We came up with some sort of explanations for such conclusion.

Unfortunately, as most of brazilian studies, most of the material are in portuguese and the majority of our researchers in business are not fluent in English language which makes it difficult to share our entrepreneurial studies overseas. In this case, if you are really interested, I can translate part of this paper into english. Or, at least, share the database with only the variable names translated.

That's a pitty as I know there is some interest from international community to what is going on in terms of entrepreneurial activities in emerging economies like Brazil and unlike India and Hong Kong, for example, english is effectivelly a barrier to access local studies.

Assunto: [ENTREP] Meta-Analysis: Impact of Entrepreneurship Education

    Hello:

My colleagues and I plan to conduct a meta-analysis on the topic of the impact of entrepreneurship education on future employment and/or success as an entrepreneur. Specifically, we plan to examine whether exposure to formal education in entrepreneurship (e.g. community college courses, undergraduate courses at colleges/universities, graduate courses colleges/universities, etc.) leads to either: 1) an increased likelihood of starting a business, or joining a start-up company, upon completion of the course work; or 2) entrepreneurial success (e.g. firms with high survival rates, increased revenue, etc.). We would be comparing these groups to those who have not received formal entrepreneurship education.

If you have conducted research in either of these areas, we would very much appreciate it if:

    1. You could make us aware of any little known research that is not available in the published literature; 2. You could send us any unpublished papers you have on one or both of these topics (journal articles, masters and/or doctoral theses, technical reports, and research institute/center reports, among others); 3. You could send us any citations of papers you have published on these topics; 4. You would be willing to share any raw data that you do not plan on publishing but you think would be helpful in including in a meta-analysis of this type.

If you have any of the above that you would like to have included in our meta-analysis, please send them to: jmcnall1@gmail.com

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    P.S. My apologies for cross-postings.

If this is to be a formal meta-analysis (a very good idea, btw - I've been suckered into doing a full-blown meta on self-efficacy and on intent... just not today, LOL) then Jeff, et al need essentially your results (correl matrix, beta weights or equiv) and key facets of the study's design (How was "education" measured? What were the outcome measures? etc.

My studies are lost on in the depths of time (LOL) but used enrollment in a advaced undergrad entrep class or in the UG capstone and I measured intent and its associated attitudes plus other measures of entrepreneurial thinking. But othe people have used different interventions and different outcome measures. Anyway, Jeff -- you might want to be very explicit as to what you need exactly to include a study in the meta...

Larry Cox did a study I kinda liked; Liz Kisenwether, Tony Warren (Penn St) & Ralph Hanke (Bolwing Green) did some nice work, Vangelis Souitaris too, Nicole Peterman did a very nice study published in ETP. Those are the best studies that come to mind at this very late hour. (You might drectly ping Claire Leitch & Richard Harrison to see what studies they know about.

Jeff, again, let us know exactly what you need. (And it's a heckuva idea -go get'em!)
