University of Alabama Management Ph.D. Program

The Department of Management & Marketing in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Alabama is now accepting applications for our Management PhD program for students starting in the fall of 2012. More information, including details about our admission procedures, is available at our website (http://cba.ua.edu/mgt/phd) or by contacting our doctoral coordinator, Jonathon Halbesleben, at jhalbesleben@cba.ua.edu.

We will accept applications at any time.  All applicants are automatically considered for research assistantship appointments, which include a competitive financial stipend, tuition waiver, subsidized healthcare, office space, and a laptop computer.

Why should I get a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Alabama?

    World-class faculty

We have a large and diverse group of faculty who are both internationally known for their research and for involving students in their work. General areas of faculty research expertise include: Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, and Strategic Management. Specific faculty research interests include: dynamic capabilities, employee well-being, franchising, innovation, organizational citizenship behavior, strategic alliances, strategic human capital, strategic information technology management, and work-family issues.

Our faculty members are also highly visible in the field, with two former associate editors of the Academy of Management Journal, a former editor of the Journal of Management, current associate editors of the Journal of Small Business Management and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, as well as representation the editorial boards of most top management journals.  We have also recently further expanded our faculty dramatically with the goal of further raising the profile of the department and Ph.D. program.

The attention you need to succeed

We have an intentionally small program in order to foster faculty and student interaction. You will work closely with faculty from the moment you arrive on campus (and sometimes before!) to produce research for publication in high-quality journals.  As a result, our students have published in the top journals in the field, frequently presented at conferences, and have won numerous awards for their research.

    A vibrant, growing research university

The University of Alabama is the flagship campus in the state with over 30,000 students living and studying on one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.  Recent growth in enrollment and an emphasis on research has given UA significant research resources.  The Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration is the largest college at the university and frequently rated among the best in the South.

    A great place to live

Tuscaloosa is a thriving community of just over 90,000 residents.  It was recently named the "Most Livable City in America" by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.  It has also been named one of the best cities to launch a small business and one of the best communities for young people in recent years.  The city has a strong dedication cultural and performing arts, having recently completed a new amphitheatre and working to complete a new cultural arts center.  The variety of shopping and restaurants is exceptional and Birmingham is just a short drive up the highway. If you are in the mood for a road trip, Tuscaloosa is a short drive to Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, and the stunning Gulf coast beaches.  And you haven't experienced college football until you have been in Bryant-Denny Stadium to see the 13-time national champion Crimson Tide!
